And Soon the Darkness Audience Reviews

FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Forumrxes Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
Taha Avalos The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
RavenGlamDVDCollector Amber Heard gets full marks for this one. She is 100% great in it. So much so that I at first, during the first half, proclaimed this movie to be an absolute winner. But it is those two beautiful girls, she and Odette Yustman, that carry the movie during its first half. When the **** strikes the fan, and the movie turns dark, many cracks start to show, there is no charm left, and I get critical of the surprisingly overrated male actors. Karl Urban started off well as Michael, but what the hell happened? He played the character totally wrong in the second half, came across as dumber than dumb. That Calvo guy, also not quite as good a performance as the filmmakers seem to think. Good enough, but not as great as they make it out to be on the commentary. The strong point of the movie, besides the beauty of the two female leads, is their charm, they are highly watchable, cute together. They're both very good actresses, and at the rate the movie sets off, I'd have been far more generous with my star rating. But things become kinda too easy for our heroine, she locates the missing girl too easily, and has the innate unerring ability to surely kick a guy dead-center where it hurts the most, not just once, but regularly. In short, there is a lack of the kind of suspense that was needed to make this movie riveting in the second half. The ending comes too abrupt, when the violence is over, the movie comes to an end. Yes, I did like that last scene (oddly reminiscent of the climactic scene of ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE) but there should still have been something more.A good try. Excellent choices in lead girls, and the Argentinian landscape is magnificent. But I'm still bummed by the much-weaker second half, which really threw such a promising start away!
iamtherobotman What the actual Hell was this? The 1970's Original had an innocence to it that this pile of c**p was lacking in shovels(never mind spades). What is it with the US film industry that they take what was a decent Film and turn it into a steaming pile of Dog s***e? How can they do it with such amazing regularity almost effortlessly? Instead of Rural France and two English Girls on a holiday, we have Rural Argentina( for some reason?? Why not Canada for example) and two dumb Yank Birds and a sex trafficking syndicate!! What?? Then we have the entire community seemingly in on this kidnapping scheme - again, What?? Some of the acting was passable but sadly the vast majority was abysmal. Amber Heard may look good, but for the love of all our sanity, please Hen, give up the acting. You're clearly no good at it!! The whole thing was awful, with the only similarity with the original ( which is far superior by the way) being 2 girls, holiday, one goes missing. Other than that, nope! Terrible Film, truly awful. They've taken a decent wee story and tried to tart it up and only succeeded in killing it completely.
mrnunleygo This film had potential, but couldn't realize it. I disagree with other reviewers who said it's predictable. There were some elements you could see coming but other things that were quite unexpected. I didn't see the original of which it's a remake, but I thought this thriller had a nice claustrophobic feeling about it with the protagonist increasingly hemmed in as you wonder how she will cope. On the other hand, I totally agree with the reviewers who complained about the stupidity of the characters. Not just the leads, but each and every character in the movie appears to have an IQ of about 60. It might be a good movie to watch if you were playing a drinking game where you have to have a shot every time somebody does something that makes no sense.
Tss5078 Human trafficking is one of the most scary and abhorrent realities of our society. While it happens in many places, for many reasons, and in many different ways, filmmakers only seem to see the obvious. Once again we have a film about two girls traveling abroad, when one is abducted for the purposes of being sold as a sex slave. And Soon The Darkness is simply the same story as Taken and Hostle, with several small difference. In this film, only one girl goes missing, while the other teams up with a good samaritan, to try and find her. As always American girls are at a premium and the trail leads her to a vile underground of deceit and deception in a third world country. As far as abduction films go, this one was pretty unrealistic. How many young American girls, travel alone, to remote locations in third world countries, rather than staying at the resort or with some tour group. Second, there are a ton of American's in this supposedly secluded area, that doesn't have anything close to what could be considered a tourist attraction. And Soon The Darkness features an adequate cast, and of course, two very good looking girls, wearing as little as possible, but as far as substance and originality go, this film was severely lacking in both.
