AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Isbel A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
LEHanes72 I didn't watch this movie with any preconceived notions about how good or bad critics said it was. I certainly didn't watch it to judge the acting talents of Ms. Simpson. I enjoyed Employee of the Month and Dukes of Hazzard. I even enjoyed Wilson's last 'dud' movie, Idiocracy. And, I must say, for ninety minutes this movie too did entertain me.I like Larry Miller. I like Luke Wilson. I can't really say that I'm a fan of Jessica Simpson as an actress but I have liked movies she has been in. There are plenty of critics who say that 'pretty' women in movies cannot act, but let's face it, they aren't put into movies because they can act. They are put in them because they are 'pretty'.The story was good and the comedy worked for the most part. There were a couple of parts I didn't like; but overall the movie was very good. I recommend the movie.A lot of people who say they only watched the first ten minutes or so cannot be considered credible critics. It surprises me a little that for as bad as this movie was rated by so many; so many people did actually watch the movie. As Larry Miller stated in Necessary Roughness, 'eternal vigilance is the price of integrity.'
RealLiveClaude Okay, I heard a lot from this movie being bad, being not well written, unsuccessful in limited release, Jessica Simpson in it, blah, blah, blah...I've seen it, was a breeze compared to other movies which tried to be 'good' when I came in, and those ones deceived me all the way. Not this one ! Let's give credit to Jessica Simpson here: she does her best, not the best actress in the world, but at least she is in a situation where she does not want to be the usual 'ditzy blonde', but make her place in a tough world...The supporting cast is OK (reason I watched is that Rachael Leigh Cook had a supporting role, a good performance, but too overshadowed...). Just watch an aging Penny Marshall making a reference to Milwaukee (if you remember her days as Laverne DiFazio in Laverne and Shirley...), it's worth to hear. To watch if you like Jessica Simpson mostly, she is almost in every scene...At least, this movie can't be that bad...
Alex Walters This might be unbelievable, but this movie has grossed $878,138 in Russia! It's shown in almost all cinema theaters and still running! Well, I have no idea why distributors put their eye on this particular uh "movie", which had almost no screening around the world. That's some kind of enigma! Haha! Maybe it was based on the fact that another movie, "Pledge This" with Paris Hilton, which was as well released only DVD almost everywhere, had major screenings in Russia and grossed more than 1mln$. Besides, both movies had a lot of promotion, like there were the banners all over the city, TV commercials and etc. Speaking about movie, I'd say it's dull and absolutely boring. It could be better, really. Even if it has Jessica Simpson.
joecarter29 I don't think this movie deserves all the bad press it's gotten. The "cover" for this movie DVD or movie poster really is terrible (recycling a previous press photo from a CD) but the movie really isn't.I personally think that this movie was better than some that I've seen in the past and this is definitely better than all straight to DVD movies that I've seen (disregarding the "limited" release in Texas). The name cast in this movie is very good (Luke Wilson, Rachel Leigh Cook, Penelope Ann Miller, Andy Dick, etc.) The story does have a bit of a plot and is entertaining enough. The first 10 Min's of this movie was pretty bad though, I must admit. Terrible acting on the part of Jessica, the "financee" and Nelson. Jessica really did look empty and "pouted" a ton in that first 10 Min's or so. But shortly after she got to NY, it got exponentially better and the movie kept getting better as it went along. For most of this movie, it was cliché (such as the difficult and quirky boss) and I felt parts of it were rip-offs of some other TV shows or movies that I've seen (kind of like an Ugly Betty situation with Dick and Miller). The part about Wilson meeting Simpson also didn't make much sense since he's supposed to be a mail-guy and then they coincidently work in the same place. Finally, a lot of the people in this movie doesn't act within reason such as the Marine Board members wanting to sign a deal right there and then without going through any details and despite the chaos. Besides these glitches, I think the movie is very watchable.
