Cake Audience Reviews

HeadlinesExotic Boring
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
sophiahwright Don't listen to the crappy reviews. This movie is PHENOMENAL.
Artemis Athanasaki I wanted to watch this movie for a long time because of all the reviews and i didn't regret it at all. To me this was a movie which successfully touched the human soul in all possible ways. On Aniston I have to say this. I liked her on friends, and i always categorised her as a comedian but this once she proved she got more than just the looks. With this movie she proved she got the talent too. And truth is that as she started as a series actress it should be very difficult for her to enter the movie business as most series actors never make it there. I may admit that this was her most challenging role and she nailed it.On the negative parts(there are always negatives) I may say that the movie could be faster. Also it could declare the story better, we had to guess parts of the plot, which is interesting but you still have to declare everything in the end. At times the plot didn't let us relate to Claire and I personally didn't feel her pain. And lastly supporting characters could be better, the only well rounded characters were Claire and silvana the rest were superficial. On the whole this was not a masterpiece, but to me it was one of Aniston's best and a movie worth watching. I would gladly re-watch it some time.
elle_kittyca I had mixed feelings about this film. First the good: I enjoyed the thoughtful attempt to explore issues of pain, tragedy and suicide. I enjoyed many of the performance, including Anna Kendrick as Nina's ghost. I thought Jennifer Aniston's performance was reasonably good, but certainly not worth all of the hand-ringing claims of Oscar snub. It was simply not so great as to be at the level of the greatest actresses. The less good: i didn't believe most of the relationships, much of the dialogue. the dark comedy elements, in my opinion, interfered with the serious drama going on. There were snapshots of authenticity that were powerful and meaningful, but the incongruous setting made the whole thing not gel very well for me. In short, despite my interest in these themes, I did not enjoy much of the film because of the writing/and or directing.
aliases-53334 I am actually surprised by the bad reviews that this movie has received. I will attribute it to the unlikeness of the character, acted (masterfully) by Jennifer Aniston. This is a story of a woman who has been through a terrible tragedy, and I will not say more about that since this is something to discover slowly as the film reveals itself. This is an "experience" movie, which is not about a mystery or a thriller, but is about the personal experience of the characters in everyday life events. Jennifer Aniston has bravely portrayed a woman who has been through a personal tragedy, and is trying to maintain a routine and sustain some connection with the few people in her life. We are not fully connected with that woman at first, until we realise the nature of her tragedy and understand how it effected her. In my opinion, it is only then that the viewer understands the true value of this film and is being rewarded for their patience. This film delivers with fantastic acting on all parts, great script and a satisfying ending. Its only fault is that you would only want to watch it once, because of the hard topic and the unlikeness of the main character.
