Fruitvale Station Audience Reviews

SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
jeffrymiranda-25858 I have to say that the movie is pretty boring almost till its end since that's the part when things really make sense. Also, I think there are some social elements in Oscar Grant's that could've been developed better. He had a life full of difficulties that would've made his character more human and realistic maybe presenting some glimpses of his childhood, overall violence during his upbringing, etc. Overall, I think the message was conveyed and it is the true brutality. This is a very educational filmed that should be taught in the police, schools, and any other institution where basic human rights are in place, so that we can all learn from this brutality and make a change in our still racist society.
cinemajesty Director Ryan Coogler delivered an impressive debut on 2013er Sundance Film Festival, which delivers the school-book directorial approaches to lead him in just four years to a Marvel-Universe picture of "Black Panther" about to be released in February 2018. Under support of actor Forest Whitaker acting as producer to realize a close 1,000,000.00 U.S Dollars production originating from a Sundance Film Institute Film program and additionally backed by the Weinstein Company seated in New York City, the festival's audience decided to put the director and his lead Michael B. Jordan on the map for Hollywood distribution. The film follows 22 year-old Oscar through bay area of San Francisco on New Year's eve of year 2009. He encounters missed job assignments, a pushy girl-friend, calling where is the money, and his daughter at a care-taking shelter home, before getting shot by a police officer on the name-given Fruitvale Station platform.Watching the movie, the streaming pace looks in place at first glance. OTS-shots get combined with standard hand-held close-up coverage to deliver editorial coverage. Some extra b-roll shots of subway trains and the bay area support the atmosphere of the picture. Nevertheless some artistic ingredients is missing to lift the picture beyond any supported Sundance institutionalized film, which may lead to an indecisive stand for a directorial vision against Marvel Studios Excutives for the upcoming "Black Panther" (2018).
secretzfan This film I know hit theaters a while back and became a big deal during the Trayvon Martin trial that had happened, but even without that this film works. Watching this film a while after the event took place has really showed what Ryan Coogler can do as a director. I had no idea this was based on a true story and yet even despite that this film works so well for me. Even without knowing the ending the movie still sets the tone right of what it is like to live in a black neighborhood filled with police everywhere on the streets and black men being gunned down all the time. It really makes the impact the film desires to give much more inspiring and powerful as well as we see what leads up to the event taking place and how the event as a whole ends up going down either way. Just seeing what our main character does in his daily life is very compelling and intriguing to me. It makes you grow attached to him. It also doesn't run away from his flaws and shows he isn't a perfect character who does the right thing all the time, but it doesn't make the events that happen to him any less wrong or immoral. Ryan Coogler is great and deserves a lot of praise for this film. He has down a great job directing it.
parleon-thedon I absolutely love this movie. Honestly, I didn't know anything about Oscar Grant until I saw this movie.Positives:1. Michael B. Jordan plays Oscar Grant with effectiveness2. All of the actors in this movie feel like real people3. The directing in this movie is effective and tremendous4. The cinematography really sets the tone and it sucks you in5. The movie moves kind of slow while feeling fast paced at the same time6. Every scene in this movie feels necessary (absolutely nothing needs to be taking out or changed)7. There's humanity in this movie (example, in life we are the main characters in our own worlds; people come into our lives, they enter, and some exit; some people may change your life and it may effect you forever8. The last 15 minutes or so made me cry (I don't cry very often, especially during movies, but I felt the pain, I felt the heartache, the emotions felt real, the grieving was real, and the loss hits homeNegatives:Honestly, I can't think of any negatives for this movie, and that's very rare for meThe only negative thing is the police. The officer claims to have been reaching for his taser, but he accidentally reached for his gun, and he shot unarmed Oscar Grant in the back. The officer did go to prison, but he only got 11 months. A lot of people in the community claim that there is no justice in the justice system. Some officers get to do what they won't with no real consequences. Some people feel that police are their own gang. Some officers terrorize people and inflict fear. The police are meant to serve and protect their citizens. People are starting to die and the world is noticing that there is a chain happening here. Black communities are suffering because they don't feel safe in their own communities. civilization has evolved and we have access to more things. The accidental shooting of Grant was recorded on numerous cameras. Witnesses were around and apparently the police felt that they could do what they wanted. I don't know much about the current issues happening in the black communities; I am a black male, but I have not experienced any intentional racism myself. I'm glad that this movie was made. This movie can shed some light on the current issues we are facing.Overall, I absolutely fu*king love this movie; this movie is definitely worth checking out.Final Grade: A+
