Gia Audience Reviews

Greenes Please don't spend money on this.
SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
ChanBot i must have seen a different film!!
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
thesar-2 Well, this confirms it. I'm gay.As beautiful I think Angelina Jolie is and as much of a girl-crush I have on her, seeing her nude in Gia was nothing to me. I think I even checked my phone during her gratuitous nude scenes. Rise/Fall movies are fairly common. Many of the "True Story" films are based on this and sometimes they're harder to watch than others. This one was tough, indeed, but not in the top ten, by a long-shot.Gia, according to these accounts, was given the world (of fashion) at the cost of basically nothing. Her strong attitude, wise-cracking one-liners and switchblade made her stand out from the shallow and brainless Barbie Dolls, but she quickly succumbed to drugs. And that takes up the majority of the "fall" part.Sure, it's hard to see someone so gifted with genuine beauty throw it all away for addiction. *I* know addiction. I know this is all true. So, yeah, I know how true something can rule your life until you got nothing. In the real life, Angelina was really just starting out here and she proved immediately how great she is. She's the star and most important part of this semi-documentary, semi-overdramatic TV movie. Mercifully, as she was at the "rise" part of the title character's plight, she didn't take the same destructive tendencies.Again, Rise/Fall films show the same sad adventures, but this film is still significate because of how absolutely gorgeous this woman was and how many wonderful chances she was bestowed and how one can literally destroy themselves inside and out.***Final thoughts: I'm sure people would watch this only for the girl-on-girl action and multiple female nude scenes. Hell, I'm not perfect and choose some films for the same reason, though they're men in those roles. But, there is so much more than just the free shows in the first half or so. Yeah, spoiler, if all you're interested in is a free show of breasts, you can stop about half-way through. The rest is the best message you can take from this.
Irishchatter I thought Angelina Jolie as Gia was absolutely brilliant! I never even heard of the real supermodel who was the first woman to die of AIDS. It does give you an insight of her life very well and like, she really did had a rough life. It was a shame that her parents didn't have a happy marriage and that she became a wild child because of that. Omg, Mila Kunis was absolutely cute as a wee young girl, I wonder if this was her first ever appearance on a movie? Anyways her life was so cut short, she honestly shouldn't have died so young at 26! That was such a waste of life with drugs, she should've kept away from being a supermodel and concentrated on what those people in the fashion industry are doing to their models! Its still going on today but it has to stop be stopped in my opinion. It would be better if there were proper fashion industries who concentrate on their models health and well-being. Its just a disgrace for those who don't care about their models but all they would care is money! Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Mitchell's sex scenes were absolutely beautiful, it does show how much they really love each other! Including some others including the men having a gay kiss. It so makes you feel good, gay or straight! I would suggest people watching this because you would absolutely get hooked into it, even if its two hours long. Watch it folks!
MBunge There's something a little unfair that a movie about one woman's life is now and always shall be remembered as the launching pad for another woman's career. Though this story is technically about doomed fashion model Gia Carangi, this film is notable only as a showcase for the talent and magnetic sensuality of Angelina Jolie. With a less compelling star in the lead role, Gia the motion picture and Gia and person would have been quickly forgotten. Now, there will always be people watching this thing for as long as people watch anything for entertainment. So, I guess it's fortunate that, while clichéd, this is a decent piece of work.Gia Carangi was a spirited Philadelphia girl who was swept up into the work of high fashion in the late 70s, fell in love with a beautiful make up artist (Elizabeth Mitchell), fell even more in love with drugs, got AIDS and died in the mid 80s. Now, I was alive during that time and don't think I ever saw Gia Carangi or ever heard anyone even reference her, but that may say more about what it was like to live without being inundated by the media every second of every hour of every day. Anyway, we just have to take it on faith that Gia is deserving of a film about her life because there's really nothing here that we haven't seen before in other "rise and fall of a superstar" genre flicks. No, pretty much all this has going for it is young Miss Jolie displaying the charisma that would make her a world wide celebrity, in addition to an awful lot of her exposed flesh. Not that Gia is bad otherwise. Intercutting scenes from her life with interviews from the characters who orbited around her is fairly effective and Elizabeth Mitchell as Gia's lover and Mercedes Ruhl as her mother, who seems very Minnesota-y for a Philadelphia housewife, both give good performances. There's simply nothing all that special, or at least the movie doesn't explain or demonstrate what was all that special, about its subject. We've only got the captivating portrayal of Jolie and it's never clear if the viewer is responding to that or to the actual life and personality of Miss Carangi.Gia is certainly worth seeing, but it's not something you need to rush right out for.
kayden eryan The film feels flat from start to finish. Slow boring dragged out storyline. The film starts off with the tone that sleeping around and promiscuity are cool and this women, Gia was OK to do this!? Her behavior is condoned. Nice message! This film is basically another excuse for Hollywood to show soft porn. The lesbian scenes are just.. there to satisfy the male audiences bottomless pit of lust(or so the writer-producers seem to imply in so many films!)Why was this women even made out as a heroine, if this is a correct portrayal, then she was promiscuous, obnoxious, foul mouthed and selfish. Angelina plays that well ,per usual! Oh and great advertising for the smoking industry Angelina! I'm sure people who suffer from cancer will commend you-NOT! The whole film seems full of a bunch of vile shallow creatures. The story is actually empty and void of any soul. Angelina overacts everything. You can't really connect with her. Bits of her neediness seep through, that's the only characterization you get. The romance is bland with no chemistry Angelina Jolie couldn't carry the ' bad girl model attitude'real model . You simply have to look at Canadian supermodels Yasmeen Ghauri and UK's Naomi Campbell to see what real 'sexual power and model attitude' is about. The last 20 mins off the film are a bit interesting and give the film some depth and meaning. we can connect a bit more with gia, but it's a bit late on in the film! Best thing about the film is Eric Michael Cole's beautiful backside shot .Also, for being brave and considerate enough to show two hot guys kissing for once!
