Hot Dog... The Movie Audience Reviews

Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Fluentiama Perfect cast and a good story
Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
videorama-759-859391 You might think this is another sex movie, except in the snow. Yes it's a raunchy comedy, and of course we still can't hide the fact, it's just another one of those, get your gear off, unapologetic sex comedies, in a long line of eighties ones, but Hot Dog kind of caught me off guard. It is better than a lot of sex comedies of it's ilk. The photography, the tracking and dolly shots of the skiing is second to none, which really impressed and wowed, especially in a film like this. The story basically sees one of these avid promising skiers (Houser), where skiing is not his only talent, pick up a rebellious beauty on the way, and it's off to the alps. Of course, that night, after singing this great country song to her, that I could get out of my head for a while, he makes love to her, and it was great to see this chick her get her gear off. The guys competition is an obnoxious narcissistic Russian champion skier (pig) who butts heads with him, so it's the good guy team led by Naughton, against the bad guy team, that's chiefly takes up the story. Starring a cast of mainly unknowns, save for the likable Naughton and the lustrous Shannon Tweed, here playing a real bitch, Sylvia, who steals Houser away from his girl, Hot Dog was one of those more raunchy, kind of push the envelope sex comedies, that makes going to the snow (one place I've never been) all so appealing, as there's more beautiful sights besides the snow. One cable car scene was sexy and a hoot, with one of our the lucky good guys, making out with a hottie. Also we have a wet t shirt competition. Like I said, more beautiful sights. Trying to track this 80's must be seen movie down on VHS, would be almost like trying to get blood out of a stone.
Bencalhoun Hot Dog The Movie never aspired to win anyone an Oscar. It's an 80's teen triumph flick that does exactly what it promises. It makes you laugh in a big way, makes you stare in wonder at great skiing sequences, blush at the somewhat overly gratuitous love scenes, and blows Borat, Napolean Dynamite, Benchwarmers and Blades of Glory clean out of the water. No the plot isn't exactly complex or original, but let's face it...it's not "Jackass The Movie" either is it ? This is a classic 80's tween audience draw that still works, even after all these years. If you were to edit the the sex scenes down to 10 or so seconds per coupling you could probably re release this with great results among the "Dodge Ball" Crowd. I give this movie a fat 10 out of 10 for being what it's supposed to be: An uproariously irreverent look at competition skiing aimed at a tweenage audience. A movie that STILL strikes a chord with those who were part of that audience back in 1984. A Winner.
gsnoorky I liked the movie from the 80s on. It's true that many of the activities portrayed are not appropriate today. Of course a lot of people hate this movie, but they generally hate this genre of movie, anyway, right?! I was especially moved by the sex scene with Harkin (Patrick Houser) and Sunny (Tracy N. Smith), the guitar serenade (written by folkie John Stewart), the hot tub scene with Shannon Tweed, and the gondola scene. It's very rare for such sex scenes to move me in other like movies of that period: I think that director Peter Markle handled the sex scenes very tastefully.... The skiing scenes were also really well done, also, but one often may see that the stunt skiers are different from the actors (duh!).It's true, also, that some of the plot contains dumb male humor. However: I remember the names of the actors that I liked in the key romantic and sex scenes, and some others, so the movie did move me....
mdonahoe This movie shows the true dynamic of good vs. evil battle, the good guys led by Rudolph and the Jets vs. the bad guys led by David Naughton(star of Midnight Madness) and his new hip protege Harkin Banks they call themselves the rat pack. Rudi "aka Rudolph" is a mild mannered German who is the best skier in the world, he and the Jets have come to squa valley to try and win the world cup of Skiing. But Harkin the hot shot from Idaho has to come and try and screw it up, and one thing is for sure the rat pack plays dirty. Harkin is a man-whore who cares about no one, he will sleep with anything that moves and when his tornado bait girl finds out about it she turns to the true hearted Rudi to comfort her, but you can't trust white trash and she turns her back on Rudi. Then when Harkin finds out he sabotages the "jets" skis forcing them all to fall. Which only starts a fire under Rudi and his crew to see who is the true champ in the world series of skiing. Now I don't want to ruin anything but the Jets are definitely playing for Keeps.
