In a World... Audience Reviews

Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
shadow_blade-89459 "In a World" (2013) is a comedy about a woman named Carol, played by writer and director Lake Bell, that overcomes the stereotype of premier voice-over actors. I think this is a strong film, specifically for woman, but mostly for anyone who has ever been doubted by a loved one. It gave me a sense of accomplishment even though the story wasn't about me. It made me think about times where I was doubted by my bosses to as to whether I could abandon my southern accent to narrate a news story. I felt like Carol when I was able to prove them wrong. Lake Bell has a wonderful mind. I would have never imagined this film to be an actual concept and she made it happen and well. There were few creative shots, but I believe it to be very unnecessary in this film. Much like the story itself, everything was pretty much straight forward. Carol's "oddness" rings true of many people today, but it didn't take away from her inner strength. This is an outstanding film that should garner a viewing from aspiring writers, directors, and film buffs.
franklin I watched this movie on a recommendation not knowing anything about it. I was pleasantly surprised with not only how funny it was, but how well written the dialogue was. The performances from Lake Bell, Demetri Martin, and Michaela Watkins (none of whom I'd seen before) were both funny and smart. I've watched it several times and the jokes hold up and I think it gets better every time. I hope this movie is remembered for years to come. I could recommend this movie to just about anybody, and its become one of my favorite comedies to come out in the last 10 years. I hope Lake Bell writes/directs more movies in the future.
M MALIK lake bell is one of the few underrated actresses out there who can do wonders if the script is solid but this time she he writes, directs & starts in this comedy about voice overs in movie trailers.bell's direction is great she keeps it cinematic but the topic she chooses is totally dingy the characters never really develop the chemistry here at all i kept my expectations high for some witty strong dialogs but none of that comes now if we just look at the story lake bell plays a role of carol a girl who wants to be in the voice dubbing business she loves doing voice-overs on film trailers but her father does not approve this a bit.the voice dubbing acts hardly appear for few moments but most of the film is about the dysfunctional family, friends & affairs etc the film went off topic & never made a return to the root subject. The entire cast gets wasted here but Michaela Watkins performance is worth checking out & what the hell were Eva Longoria & Geena Davis doing here making a special appearance as for Lake Bell she is as usual stunning but problem is she really cant give her best here as she does in her other movies.it feels like lake bell really took the burden of directing on herself & forgot to add much variety & fun in her own character as well as the script she created a room for other actors but left herself out.the genre don't seem like comedy at all its more like a drama or a Rom-com as each an every scene gives you that vibe. Overall In A World 2013 is a disappointment without a doubt Lake Bell is a fantastic artist but i really hope her next directorial effort brings the best if she ever picks up the camera again my rating is 3/10.
xhidden99 I can't take it anymore. Every 'witty' movie, every 'sharp' TV show is an endless cacophony of 450 words per minute stammering chatter about absolutely not a god damn thing at all except complaining. Couple that with a movie ABOUT voice overs that's nearly mumbled and whispered into a muddy mush, lighting that's nearly dark, and direction that leans heavily on the show 'Parenthood' and you've got this mess. This movie is about nothing and most of it takes place over the phone between people who either hate each other or are doing the fake stream of consciousness thing a la 'Gilmore Girls'. I just can't take it anymore. In a world where garbage is wit and quality is something pulled off the shelf as a cliché's cliché only one woman cam save civilization from OCD. And fails.
