Independence Day Audience Reviews

More Review
Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Minahzur Rahman This was a really entertaining movie to watch back then. It's one of my favourite movies of that time, and it was something I could watch again. I use to watch it all the time whenever it appeared on television, and it was cool to watch like that. The plot was fine though it could've been way better. The only thing I didn't like about Independence Day was that there wasn't enough of the aliens; in fact, I don't think there was much at all which is bizarre. All I could see was alien spaceships, and I think there is a difference. Also, there was barely much information on who those aliens were, where they were from, and how they knew about us. If only the movie gotten those things right, Independence Day would've been far greater than it already is. But I have to admit, those spaceships were so cool, big and scary-looking. It's these spaceships that make this movie enjoyable to watch. I really liked the scene where one of the spaceship just disintegrates an entire building in mere seconds with all these people on top. The cast was great too especially Will Smith. He was what made this movie a success. He's one of the main reasons I watched this movie, and why I particularly enjoyed it. The movie was fine all the way throughout, but I wouldn't say the part towards the end was as good as the beginning or middle. The parts at the beginning and middle looked serious, but the same can't be said towards the latter end. Despite its flaws, it's still a good movie, and I'm surprised it has a lower rating than what it should be. I think it should be higher than that.
asarekrikse I know this movie doesn't seem serious now, but I still think it's a very good movie! And I'm not saying this just because Will Smith is my favourite actor... Well, maybe... But still, the movie is good! Yes, there's some scenes that seem to be funny, etc., but I think it's a great movie, it's fun, and entertaining, even tho it's old!
Stephen Bird One of the first modern blockbusters, Independence day is a landmark achievement in film-making and made mega-money at the box office. A perfect story and a well told narrative to celebrate the Independence of America, as well as tackling the situation of an alien invasion head on; the formula of the story is a mixture of spectacular action and the human psyche, instead of mindless in-your-face grandeur, Independence Day opts for a more humane approach, adding tension and heightened emotion to the score. Unlike a whole load of other sci-fi films, in this film the physical appearance of the actual aliens is purposely limited, what they look like isn't important..., they limit this to a couple of scenes most famously in Area 51 where the alien attacks the doctor in the lab. In all honesty I believe this film to be Will Smith's finest, I see the man as a limited actor who hasn't got the greatest set of skills, but in Independence Day the guy was near perfect, embracing his role as Captain Steven Hiller with gusto and possesses an air of confidence unrivalled by any of his other film roles. The supporting cast most notably Jeff Goldblum's David pulled their weight with enthusiasm, each of them had a required sense of urgency about them, choreographing their characters so they fit handsomely into the bigger story. The premise seemed a little bit outrageous, this wouldn't happen in real life, if aliens did invade then the situation would be tackled very differently than how it is in the film, hence the story was tarted up for the big screen, overly elaborate in every department, this isn't a problem though because it's a fictional film and in every fictional film, there are deep exaggerations bordering onto the far-fetched. The recent sequel of Independence Day doesn't hold a candle to the original, the sequel does everything it shouldn't, resists no temptation and appears to be glorified and therefore terrible, not so with the original, this film has clear boundaries and doesn't dare to cross them once, twenty years apart? The equivalent of a million years in Hollywood, and can't you just tell the difference in quality between the two films. One of those films you can watch again and again and never get tired of, that's the mark of a top quality film..., one of the finest films of the 90's you'd be hard pressed to miss it.
Torrin-McFinn77 So Independence Day isn't for everyone, so what? It's still better than most of those other recent disaster films. It made a ton of money when it came out and won an Oscar. I don't care for Oscars, but that's not why I go to movies in the first place. I go to a movie to be entertained, not to pick apart like a Rotisserie chicken. That's my two cents. And even if the dialogue isn't the best, it's still interesting. Many of the lines are memorable and fun to listen to as a fan. I'd even heard of some of them used in other TV shows and video games. This movie is one of those love-it-or-hate-it films, but I'm one of the people who love it. Alien ships, destruction, dogfights, and different people banding together to fight a common foe. Will they survive? Only time will tell.
