Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
cochran12 I consider myself a pretty good movie buff, meaning, it's never too hard to understand a film, however, this was not one of them. sure, I get supernatural, and manifestations of the mind, and I too get how using powerful drugs can alter your state of mind. but let me say, this made no sense real or unreal. first off, who are the people in the videos, her family? or ? to top that off, who were the missing people toward the end, and, yes there us a lot of ands. why did a priest come over to Molly's house and go down on her, and who was the supernatural figment awaiting her at the end of the sidewalk, and, who did her sister see to be holding out her hand at the top of the stairs to, and finally, what did her husband have to do with any of this? the only real thing I can say, is the acting performances were believable, other than that a no nonsense film. when viewing a film, there should always be an introduction , don't just throw us in the water and we went given the opportunity to take swim lessons, so to speak. I had to guess throughout the movie, and still don't know who was who. they just thru a random family on the screen and we had to guess from beginning to end, and after.
NateWatchesCoolMovies Eduardo Sanchez is a name you may or may not know, but title the title of the film which put him on the map you will most definitely remember. The Blair Witch Project was the little horror indie that caught the snowball effect and went on to become one of the most legendary fright flicks ever made, as well as unfortunately spawning the found footage sub genre. So the question was, how would a filmmaker who accidentally captured lightning in a bottle top such an achievement? Well, by not trying to recreate said lightning, that's how. By branching off, by breaking new ground, and by giving us a terrifying little character study of a horror like Lovely Molly, which has unsettled me like no other in the past couple years since I've seen it. It's a character study in the sense that the horror comes mostly from a psychological place, with the slightest suggestion of external and paranormal torment, a subtlety that goes a long way in scaring the pants off us. The story focuses on Molly (Gretchen Lodge, superb), and her husband Tim (Johnny Lewis, or halfsack for anyone who watches Sons Of Anarchy). They are a young newlywed couple just starting life together, until some restless demons from Molly's past come back to haunt her. Tim is gone for extended periods of time with his trucking job, leaving Molly alone in their secluded house, a sitting duck for supernatural and psychological forces to hunt her. Raw, disconcerting terror sets in as we witness a tragic downward spiral of disturbing sexual behaviour, unseen phantoms and unending torment befall the poor girl. Scarier still is Sanchez's blatant refusal to spell out in bold fonts just exactly what is happening to her. Is this just extreme mental illness cauded by residual trauma leftover from an abusive childhood that is hinted at? Are there actually percievable paranormal entities at work? It's the murky deliberation to not draw lines or give solid answers that makes the film work so well, right up until a climax from darkest nightmares. Lodge is beyond capable with the role, taking Molly's mania and sickness to levels beyond comprehension or reprieve, truly gone to a place of boiling internal horror. This is a different kind of horror for Sanchez, and he proves to be just as adept with the slow cooker style as he was in frenzied found footage. Don't go expecting any clear cut answers here though, this is the realm of feverish ambiguity. Some people take issue with that and need a breadcrumb trail laid out for them. I for one love not knowing, just increases the intrigue and the creep factor. A horror gem.
znegative When I was about 10 or so 'The Blaire Witch Project' came out. I didn't see it until a few years later, but I remember that movie actually scared me. 'Lovely Molly' incorporates similar techniques to produce equal (or almost) creepiness. Some directors clearly have a vision in there head. Two examples that are obvious that come off the top of my head would be David Lynch, and Guillermo Del Toro. I think after seeing 'Lovely Molly' it's safe to say Eduardo Sanchez is that type of director too. Unlike most modern horror movies which rely heavily upon special effects, Lovely Molly is a very minimalist film. What makes it creepy is mostly the sound effects, which are great, as well as the atmosphere. I guess what Eduardo Sanchez has that other directors in the genre lack, is restraint. By not revealing much of anything, Sanchez allows our minds to fill in 'what's behind that door' etc.. When we do see the 'spirit', it's barely visible, but it's scary as hell.I'll admit the only reason I watched this movie was because I heard it was by the same director as 'The Blaire Witch Project'. Before I had heard that, it was just another movie in the 'Paranormal' category on my Amazon Shudder account, and to be quite honest, I usually do not like ghost movies. To my surprise, IMO this movie wasn't so much about some spiritual entity as it was about the impression of abuse left behind on a girl by her dead father, which was a lot creepier to me. That being said, I wish I had seen this movie before 'Magic Magic', which had similar themes, all though was less a traditional horror movie than 'Lovely Molly' which is why I liked it more. I think I would have rated this one higher if I'd seen it first, but it's still a good movie. If you liked Magic Magic and Anti Christ, you'll probably enjoy this one too. I liked it enough that I'm now going to rent his other movie 'Altered'.
David Arnold Lovely Molly....boy, what a huge disappointment this was. I had wanted to see this since it's release but now after finally managing to see it I wish I hadn't bothered about it as it really was pretty bad. This is definitely one of Eduardo Sánchez's worst movies and it's actually hard to believe it's the same Eduardo Sánchez that co-directed, produced, and wrote the fantastic Blair Witch Project. The film starts off decent enough, and it doesn't take long for the story to start developing and moving along. When I say "moving along" however, I mean it goes along as if it's stuck in first gear....actually, a snail stuck in treacle has more pace to it.It also jumps around far too much and the whole movie is very stop/start with a lot of the scenes. For instance, one minute it can seem as if it's picking up but then it just stops and cuts to something else entirely. It's like it builds you up just to immediately let you down without revealing much of anything. If you're looking for a bit of gore as well then you won't find it here, but for me that's OK because I don't have to have a film packed with gore to enjoy. While I don't mind it, I'm not a 'gore freak' and it's not the first thing I look for when wanting to see a movie...in fact, I look for a good story first before gore, but if the story is all over the place, too boring to enjoy, or really just not very good - like Lovely Molly - then there is just no hope of enjoyment no matter what.Story & gore aren't the only things lacking here either as it's not even very creepy, which was disappointing considering who the director is and that it's supposed to be a supernatural/psychological horror. There are a couple of moments that weren't that bad, but overall, it just wasn't creepy enough for my liking. For me, the only things Lovely Molly has going for it is that it's pretty well acted out and some of the atmosphere generated isn't too bad.Other than that, this film is a massive let down.
