Mercy Audience Reviews

Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Spidersecu Don't Believe the Hype
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Jason OK, I liked this movie but it was missing some hot kinky action in the shower scene with Julian Sands and Beau Starr? It certainly had enough lesbian action, and I know we had the full frontal as Lt. Fritch gets out of the shower -- but c'mon, with all that pool lesbian stuff going on earlier, the overt references to gay activity between the two earlier in the film during the 'staged' scene in the police precinct -- don't you think there could have been some "demands" made on Lt. Fritch when he got out of the shower there? or, better yet, they could have done it in the shower with the door all steam (might have been tasteful-- not that there was anything tasteful about this movie). I'm just saying-- there were all those "elbo grease" references to the Lt.'s homosexuality throughout the script -- you'd think in a grotesquely sexual movie like this they would have had a little bit to balance it out some.
dhallen Very slow, plodding movie with a confusing story line. The movie's only hope of keeping the audience interested is the gratuitous nudity thrown in at regular intervals. Ellen Barkin is miscast and her looks do not hold up when she is on screen with the much-younger Peta Wilson. Not sure what this movie was about.
Alan Deikman (Alan-40) A rather dark murder mystery with very few warm moments in it. I rented it because I'm a Peta Wilson fan (as well as an Ellen Barkin fan) but it was hard to watch Peta's character without thinking of her Femme Nikita character. For one thing, Ellen should take some lessons in kickboxing from Peta. That aside, this movie works like a good detective novel, keeping you turning to the next page. I didn't spot the culprit until well late in the movie; a good sign. The gratuitous sex stuff that others are complaining about are just part of the mood, part of the reason that the characters keep hiding their motivations. Everyone has something to hide. However, the legion of pawing and naked women this movie presents does not do as much to move this idea along as Julian Sands as the dark-side headshrink. Well worth the rental fee.
danmconley I can understand those who give Mercy a 1 ... in many ways, it's a terrible film. For the most part, it's a teenaged boy's wet dream about beautiful lesbians, wrapped in Lynchian style. And yet, I couldn't stop watching it. Ellen Barkin remains a highly underrated actress (and an unbelievably sexy woman for her age.) Peta Wilson has hypnotic beauty and holds her own quite well with Barkin. She actually "researched" the role by delving into LA's lesbian S&M scene for a few weeks ... what a trooper. If you have Memento-esque short-term memory lapse, this is a great film. Forget the plot and float along in its lurid eroticism.
