My Soul to Take Audience Reviews

Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
MichaelMRamey Wes Craven seemed to have a decent story on his hands but didn't execute and I say this as a fan of his. This is by far in the bottom tier of his films because many of his others are just so legendary. This on the other hand was predictable, dull with terrible execution. If I ever seen this film again on television, I would change the channel without a second thought. This film needs a visit from the Ripper.
TheMarwood When Universal sold off their genre branch Rogue, what was then titled 25/8 sat collecting some dust until reshoots were ordered and a 3D post conversion added. The hostile reception and unpopularity of this film will probably never produce a director's cut, so I doubt we'll ever know if the original version is as messy as the released product, but boy is My Soul to Take a mess. The tone is all over the place and it barely makes a lick of sense, but as misguided as the film is, it's actually entertaining. The premise is complete nonsense about a killer with seven different personalities, who dies and somehow the personalities transfer to the wombs of seven unborn children. At their 16th birthdays they begin to get killed in typical slasher movie style and one of these kids is absorbing their souls - or something like that. Every teen character is an archetype and the end twist is as illogical as it is unsatisfactory. Bug's sister runs the school from the bathroom? Bug runs around his classroom dressed as a giant condor? Make no mistake, this is a ridiculous film that doesn't ever work and tries to create an aire of mystery with some half baked mythology, but its clumsiness has some charm. It's not nearly as toxic as its reputation and it's never boring.
Sam Shakeshaft I have seen a lot of horror films in my time. And to be honest? This film doesn't stray far most others in this particular genre. It has very generic characters, There is the jock, the beautiful girl and the loser. It also keeps up the slasher tradition of a bunch of teenagers getting picked off one by one. Was this film any different from other slashers? Not really. The acting was okay, Max Thieriot as Bug was quite good. The other seven were adequate. However, Emily Meade as Fang put in a rather poor performance. She showed next to no emotion in scenes that were meant to be quite deep. A big issue for me was the murderer himself, The "Riverton Ripper". We never properly see his mask up close, so we never get a true sense of terror that comes purely from what the killer looked like ( Ghostface in Wes Cravens scream series was a great example of a murderer that delivers scares purely based on appearance ).The one thing that saves this film from being a mere 3/4 out of 10 is the idea behind the plot. Okay, sure it could have been edited a little better but the idea of the souls of a serial killers victims travelling into the children born on the night he died was good. Then there was the murders, if you enjoy gore then you probably won't find much of it here. Out of all the murders, the second murder of Penelope was the only gory one as we can see the blood pouring out of her throat. You may as well go rent this movie, it's definitely not going to be the best film you've ever seen but I guarantee that it won't be a film to throw away after 10 minutes of watching .Overall rating : 6/10
callanvass (Credit to IMDb!) A serial killer returns to his hometown to stalk seven children who share the same birthday as the date he was allegedly put to rest.I saw this on DVD a couple years ago. Despite all the terrible critical reviews, I was still immensely excited to see it, simply because of Wes Craven's name being attached to the Director chair. Unfortunately for me, this is as bad as everyone says it is. It lacks suspense, I wasn't interested in any of the characters, and I felt a little hurt by Wes Craven to be honest with you. He is so much better than this. They can use 3.D all they want, it can't cover up that this is a terrible movie. Max Thierot has become a favorite of mine, ever since the series Bates Motel commenced. Even he can't save this crud!Final Thoughts: I don't remember much about this movie at all, just that it was god-awful. This may scare kids or young teenagers, but it's complete crap for adults. Stay away!2/10
