The Harry Hill Movie Audience Reviews

AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Listonixio Fresh and Exciting
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
krhysd "Based on a true story." Understanding this is key to fully appreciating the joy, soul and craftsmanship that went into creating this gem.The film works as a stand alone piece in itself - the teenagers I watched it with gave it an average rating of 7.5 - covering the full spectrum of types of comedy from slapstick to satire.Being of a similar age to Harry, I was exposed to the same kind of visual entertainment as a child in 70's Britain. So, in addition to the wonderfully surreal world that this genius envelopes himself in, I was able to cherish the the way he weaved in references drawn from a wide range of cultural tropes such as the Children's Film Foundation, American cartoons, black and white adventure films shown on afternoon t.v., The Goodies, pantomime, and public information films amongst others.Overall, a fantastical masterpiece richly deserving the honour bestowed on him by the University of Kent.
rj_details Its films like this one that make me wish I wasn't British. I like Harry Hill in his TV burps but this is like watching something that endures a drug induced paranoia trip. The surreality of this horrific nightmare made me feel very distressed. I have watched many banned 70's horror movies but the humour in this really got into my head and twisted it beyond sanity. Luckily I didn't watch this stuck into some dark cinema made to endure its crazy ..... words just can't begin to explain this. Even the kids watching this film started to get restless and bored because the worst thing is when adults think they can make a kids film and get into kids heads.
panzoom I'm sorry to differ, but I went to see this last week with my daughter and I loved it. If you like Harry Hill, then you will like this. I don't quite understand what's not to like. Maybe because people expect constant swearing these days.......and there is none. It is a true English comedy film, like Norman Wisdom or the Ealing films of the 50's and 60's. A nice little story with a great cast. I laughed out loud on my own a few times, and really enjoyed it. I hope he makes more. Great family entertainment. It's also fun trying to put a name to the famous faces that pop up during the film. There is an outstanding appearance by Jim Broadbent that had me in stitches.Well done Harry !
Neil Welch When Harry's hamster Abu is targeted for kidnap by Harry's evil twin brother Otto, Harry and his Nan, believing that Otto has a mere week to live, decide to treat Abu to a week of living high on the hog. In Blackpool. While avoiding Otto's henchmen.Harry Hill is a British comedy performer, much loved on TV, whose work is characteristically eccentric and surreal, sometimes clever, and almost always child-like and extremely silly. The silliness appeals strongly to children: adults have to be in the mood and, in the context of a half-hour TV programme, adults can often find this mood. This film is 90 minutes of full-on Harry Hill silliness and, for adults, it may well be a bit tough to take - I know that, despite laughing intermittently throughout, I did. I suspect it will work a lot better for kids. Harry breaks the fourth wall throughout (as per his established persona), Julie Walters, as Harry's Nan, is so far over the top she's nearly at the bottom on the other side, and the jokes vary hugely (there is a romance between Harry and a marine princess whose body is completely covered in seashells - her name is "Michelle". This joke may well sum up the entire film).I suspect that this film will not travel at all well.
