The Rift Audience Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Kinley This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
ASouthernHorrorFan With a kickoff more familiar to low budget black opd, I Spy movies, "The Rift: Dark Side Of The Moon" sluggishly and clumsily starts out. It is a beginning that feels forced into plotline and makes for a questionable start. I just knew I was gonna check out before the story really took off. Oddly enough , I hung in and found myself curiously intrigued, much like waiting for a train wreck.Once "The Rifts" concept takes murky shape, and the sci-fi tropes really become centerstage, the film becomes a managabe, all be it, mediocre experience. The acting stays choppy, and filled with over acting and melodrama. Oddly enough it starts to actually work in the film's favor. Much like many of the bad but good episodes of the reboot to "Outer Limits" back in the day.The special effects are mixed with almost trance influenced psychedelic CGI moments, and very horror inspired practical effects reminiscent of Lovecraft adaptations. Pick one. Overall I ended "The Rift" entertained, impressed even. What starts as a hot mess, so I thought, rebounds into a neat lowbudget ride into a little slice of Hell.
dingane This movie kind of wants to be a Roadside Picnic knockoff with a dash of Lovecraft ("death is dead"). I watch a lot of B-level sci-fi and horror. It would have been fine for that. The lead actress does a great job. Actually, if I were her, I'd be *pissed*. Because the movie is rendered unwatchable by the music. It's like the guy doing the score thought that the movie was really just a venue for him to perform his music. The music is just totally over-bearing and has nothing at all to do with what the characters are doing. At one point, they're driving in a car, having a mundane conversation meant to give us some important character backstory. The music is this crazy, heavy, undulating acid-guitar riffs. They're just talking! Have some soft string instruments in the background!I'd say don't watch this, but really you should watch it for about 10 min just to see how absurd this is. I've never seen a movie so thoroughly destroyed by the music. The guy isn't even a bad musician. It's just that he clearly didn't care about whatever was going on in the movie and wanted it to be about him. Again, if I were the lead actress, I'd be pissed.
thingmaker2001 Science-less science fiction with no point and little coherence. I suppose I should have been warned by the sorta nonsensical title but the credits at the beginning depict the moon rotating in space and clearly depict the reality that the moon has no "dark side" but rather a day /night cycle just like the earth; just longer. Alas, I should have remembered that sfx sequences are often done by people smarter and/or more interested in accuracy than the film-makers. There are some good scenes at the very beginning which provide background on the main character, but it's all downhill from there. Characters behave bizarrely, even before the story begins to depend on bizarre events to propel it. The music is eccentric and often... Well, the word bizarre keeps coming to mind. Honestly, I had to skip over large parts of the film, which was annoying me too much to endure, but I am absolutely certain I didn't miss anything that would have rendered it interesting or meaningful.
Marid5577 Just adding my bit to those who ranked on the music. OMG, ear bleedingly loud and so totally sound deaf to the action on screen. It's like they mixed up the sound track to a bad action movie with this weird waste of film.
