The Thief Lord Audience Reviews

Lightdeossk Captivating movie !
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Jenna Walter The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
hazel-752-685975 This sweet children's film may seem predictable especially with Bo's plot device cough, but just wait. There are unexpected twists around the corner, it will take you by surprise. The acting varied a lot throughout the film, I personally thought that the hero: The Thief Lord, was really wooden until you discovered a little bit more of his mysterious life then all of a sudden he got a lot better. Then he grew a few inches, and despite the brilliant acting at that point his hair really needed cutting. Bo however was really sweet and got the best lines and I grew to like his brother more throughout the film as it showed just how sensible and brotherly he could be. Even the "baddie" detective turned out to be a nice guy despite his bad bumbling mistakes in the first half of the film. The only real baddies were The Thief Lord's parents, you never see his mum but his dad is nasty piece of work.As for the plot, it didn't stop but wasn't always a surprise. I was just waiting for them to discover that the money from the deal was counterfeit. I was quite surprised when it turned out none of the kids were really proper thieves though but it was a nice twist. Despite the stupid mask do not expect Zorro-ness from this film you are robbed of virtually any evil and nearly everyone receives a happy ending. I was a bit disappointed when we didn't get to see Skippio tell off his dad for being such a meanie (are you allowed to call people names on IMDb?) to him but his telling off of the Aunt and Uncle make up for it. This film is funny, cute and definitely for young children: a feel good movie all round, enjoy!
liveingdeadgrl I am being nice with the 4, the movie was a horrible adaption from the book. The other characters where basically written out and parts that where suppose to be full of emotion and feeling, where dulled down and made to seem pointless. In the book when "Theif lord" betrays everyone, they hate him. In the movie it was all "oh who cares." I was more then slightly annoyed by this. None of the other characters seemed to have a story behind them when they all did. Hornet collected books, and the aunt and uncle where way worse then the movie would have led you to believe. Even the way that the two main characters got there was toned down, like it was no trouble at all. I would suggest that you read the book before giving this movie any type of high rating. I will guarantee you that, you will be just as angry as I was.
phantomphan-3 A friend of mine made me read Thief Lord over a year ago and I fell in love with it. Being the crazy internet freak I am I googled the book looking for fan sites, instead i found out about the movie. In my computer class at school I found (gasp) the trailer!!!!! But it was in German and I could not for anything find it in English. But I didn't care! All I could do for the rest of the day was gush about scip's HOTTNESS!!!! I was so mad that I couldn't find the movie in theaters but I bought the DVD the day it came out (March 14 best day ever!!!). I watched it and was pleasantly surprised. I expected it to be butchered like the Harry Potter movies but it was fantastic! So many of the scenes are word for word from the book! Nothing is better than that for a true fan of the book. All of the cast was excellent! especially Rollo Weeks as Scipio and Aaron Johnson as Prosper. (to whomever made this decision: me and my friends greatly appreciated the scenes with Prop with out a shirt.) my friend parents said it is one of the few movies that the entire family can enjoy. I watched it with a group of people age 2-42 and everyone loved it. (at least we assume the little people liked it though they arn't very good at voicing their opinions) I would recommend this movie to any one! It's so much fun and was the beginning of soooooo many inside jokes!
jettster2 I picked up this DVD because my son read the book and said it was great. So what happened??? Where was the character development? Where was the emotion? Where was the memorable score that left you humming when the film was over? The original story was good but you never really see the relationship develop between the kids, especially Scipio and Prosper. When they discover that Scipio is a bit of a fraud, nobody cares that much. When Scipio and Prosper have to make their decision regarding the merry-go-round, it just falls flat. No angst...little emotion...a disappointment. The whole thing seemed very amateurish to me. This film could have been better than Harry Potter or Narnia or Series of Unfortunate Events and should have been much better than it was. Instead, it never made it to the theaters. Hope they do better with Inkheart.
