BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
Cooktopi The acting in this movie is really good.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
the_wolf_imdb To say it frankly: There is a bit of truth there. There was an pharaoh named Tutanchamun, there was Achenseamon, there was Aj and Haremheb. And yes, there was Egypt. Everything else shown in this mini series is Star-Gate class nonsense mixed with utter lies and insults both to the history and real historical characters. There is no other way to describe it as some actions and happenings in the movie are not just ignorant, they are intentionally deceiving and insulting. First: Yes, the father of Tutankhamun, Amenhotep IV aka Akhentaten founded monotheistic religion. Christians seem to love this story, yet it is not related to their monotheism at all (Aten was a form of Sun-God Ra, really not related to Yahve). It was horrible failure that almost lead Egypt to its demise. Tutankhamun did not support this religion, in fact he RENAMED himself from Tut-ankh-Aten (Living Image of Aten) to Tut-ankh-Amun (Living image of Amun, the very god depicted in movie as a source of his problems). The king decided to erase cult of Aten and restore old gods. He was not rebel, he was restorer of old regime. The people loved him for doing that as the Amun was too abstract and not popular. Second: He was married and loved Achnseamon and had two children with her, both aborted because of inbreeding problems. However he loved her and they seemed to have short yet happy marriage. Every scene in the movie depicting her is just a horrible insult to her. Everyting else: Practically everything in the movie is one way or another just wrong, from the fact Tut never participated in combat to the internal shape of Tuts tomb in the end. It is JUST PLAIN WRONG. What is maybe even worse I can clearly see an attempt to build the plot of the movie on novel Pharaoh by Boleslaw Prus, which is based on life of completely different pharaoh (Ramesse XIII) from significantly later era. This is still fiction yet so much better. Link to the movie based on the novel is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060401/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2Please, Americans: Stop believing such crap. Force your filmmakers to stop making such crap. The opinion that Americans are culturally and historically ignorant is based on movies like this.
Dominique Do you have jobless black actors? Are they frustrated that their ethnic group has no history? Well, don't worry! You can just fabricate some historical phantasmagoria about black Mitanni people, Tut's black wife, and a fictitious black general, and slap it together for the average North American audience. The average American just doesn't know, where Mitanni was, but he is well informed that every great historical figure born in Africa was black. Even Hannibal was black, after all. They just aired it on the History Channel! And why Tut wasn't portrayed as a black pharaoh, after all?!This movie is an insult to the intelligence of every historian. It was made by businessmen, who know nothing about ancient history and hence they don't care about any facts. The most important thing is, if they get enough money for advertisement breaks.
Kirpianuscus it is far to be impressive. but it works to be credible and Avan Jogia in leading role is an important support for that. a film who recreate, in decent manner, a period. or one of many historical series who looking give a version for past who could be more than entertainment or fairy tale, a kind of parable for discover the every day reality. a series who must have success for the nice manner to mix politics and love, solitude of power and the warnings about the Court, force of a fragile king and the revenge in its many aspects. sure, it is not The Faraon by Kawalerowicz, but it is an interesting trip in the heart of a fascinating world and a good show.
armoredtanker Just awful! What can one say. Well I love movies about the Ancients. I also study the ancients. With a library of 5000 books at home, I began looking up first the Mitani. And bang what do you know I got books on them too! There from Syria,Iraq and eastern Anatolia (modern Turkey). Oh and they were not black! But this movie has a black Mitani king! This Hollywood lets just put blacks into every movie, including were they don't belong gets really old. The only reason I sat through this abomination was my wife. She felt the use of blacks to play semitic people was lame!
