Instant Star Audience Reviews

Lawbolisted Powerful
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
monstermonkey13 There is a lot of back and forth on if this show is good or bad and if there is no strong roll model and too much sex. Well the show starts out with a spunky 15 year old girl who wins a contest for a song she wrote and performed on a TV show. A little unbelievable, yes, but it's what the show is about. She very quickly is thrown into the whole fame bit; concerts, fans, manager/producer, etc. In the first few seasons, Jude, the main character, is faced with normal every day challenges as well as not so normal challenges. But the point is, that through it all, she sticks to her beliefs in the end. She does not have sex of any kind until the 4th and final season, so all the talk about too much sex is wrong. Yes there may be a bit of kissing, but it's not too bad till about season 2. Not that it ever gets really bad at all. I'd say that 95% of the kissing on this show is a major point in the show that is justified by the story line, it's not just another make out scene to wrangle the teenagers into watching it. I personally do believe the character is a fairly good role model for young ladies. She abstains from sex until she is absolutely sure she is ready and old enough, and follows her heart instead of letting a relationship hold her back from what she really wants to do. Yes, at times the main character, as well as some others, can be rather selfish, but can you say there was never a time that you weren't as well? All in all, if I had a teenage girl, I'd let her watch the show with no worries as to what she might pick up from it. I do enjoy degrassi too, but that show would show off more sex in it. Most of the characters lose their virginity well before their 18th bday, heck some of them get pregnant and have abortions before they are even old enough to understand real responsibility. So in comparison, is Instant star really that bad?
Susan C. At first, I wasn't sure about the show, I thought it was another high-school-drama T.V. program. Turns out it is great, from the very first note from her guitar to the last monologue on the show, you get INSTANTly hooked! Instant Star is about Jude Harrison (Alexz Johnson) a talented young girl that wins an American Idol alike show. The show revolves around her, she sings pretty much all the songs from it (except for a few due to some label issues) and let me just her voice is stunning. Tommy Q (Tim Rozon) is her producer and they have a "thing" going on. Watching how this develops is just so refreshing. The other characters play a great role in Jude's life, but just to mention some: Jamie, Sadie, Darius, etc.During the last seasons of IS, you've seen Jude grow and become a mature and great looking young woman, showing how the music business is like. Her relationship with boys and her passion for music and lyrics.Alexz Johnson is by far one of the best singers I've ever heard, and a great actress you like to see on screen. If you want to find some great music, acting and have a great time watching TV, don't miss it, Instant Star is the show for you.
Salamander Newt Instant Star is a show that gives nothing positive for children to look up to. The frequent making-out scenes with various characters trading boyfriends is sad. This show glorifies being a shallow, vacuous, airhead. This show glorifies cheating and moving ahead based on who you know, not what you know. I don't think that a single episode has shown anyone trying to do their homework, going to school, or doing anything that has to do with education. It is all about the characters getting their relationship grooves on.The few scenes that show anyone working on their music in the studio are always set up so that ten seconds later one of the girls is making out with her producer or someone from the band. The other time-waster is the characters complaining about how unhappy they are, or talking about their relationships. Not to mention that the woman who plays Jude is supposed to be 15 years old but she looks about 35. Most of the other so-called teens look way into their twenties. Maybe Noggin was concerned that this show would get banned if they used actual teenagers? That this show is marketed towards teenagers is pathetic, especially since it is on Noggin, which presumably is not supposed to greedily exploit the curiosity of young people who are the target audience of this horrible show.
Lynn I've read a few comments on this board from people who think this show is unrealistic and has too much sexual content. I've got only one question: What show are YOU watching?? In an age of highly unrealistic, contrived, overly-sexed "reality" shows, Instant Star is a breath of fresh air. As much as I love Degrassi: The Next Generation, I love this show even more, as the drama in the show is done for a reason. Not just the usual "It's a teen show, let's throw in every teen stereotype possible" drabble, but each situation has a purpose. Jude Harrison is struggling to to make a name for herself amid all the craziness that comes with the music business, and with being a teen-ager, dealing with all the challenges that come with life and love. MU As far as the sex...what sex? Jude doesn't even get to make out with anyone on the show. Sure, there's some kissing between the teen characters, but that's as far as it goes. The "worst" scenes happen between the adults on the show, and even those are tame in comparison to what's on T.V. today. I've seen racier commercials. Whoever thinks there's too much sex on this show must've sat on their remote control & switched to BET Uncut or MTV After Hours by mistake. I'm 32, and the proud parent of an 8-year-old, and I've no problem at all letting my son watch this show. It's an over-all portrait of a young girl struggling to hold her own in a world she's not quite ready for, and the challenges she faces trying to find her own way and stay true to herself. A parent could do MUCH worse letting their child watch something else on Nog. Like, for instance, the horrible commercials for that new Jessie Mc Carthy show. Those commercials have more smut in them than the entire 2 seasons of Instant Star put together.
