Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
katcummins I don't even watch television, if my husband didn't I wouldn't even own a t.v.. But, out of boredom I clicked on this and had the entire series watched from start to finish, only taking a few hours to sleep but it was not a sound sleep because I couldn't wait to get back on my tablet to finish it! I didn't pay attention to the fact there was only 1 season though, and I'm beside myself wondering if there will be a season 2!!!! Please, let there be more!!!
iza-henn What a totally captivating show! I nearly missed it, as it is aired in my country without any promotion, trailers or advertising at non prime time hours. A complete surprise and extraordinary plot. The characters depicted with great attention and without any psychological flows, locations and costumes made with great accuracy and attention to historical details. Suspense, mysteries from the past and conspiracy not only in beautiful costumes. Yes, and Tom Reily, again as an artist heart breaker. A completely unexpected discovery.
a_marciniak I started watching this because I saw a promo for it and thought it was beautifully shot. I've only just finished the first episode, but these are my thoughts. The show is, assuredly, beautifully shot. The characters, as written, are definitely archetypes that we've all seen before; it is true. Their personifications by the cast are nonetheless quite compelling, save for Billy who needs to just disappear. Watching him is like taking the orange zest side of a cheese grater against your skin. Awful. Or perhaps that's the point? To show how annoying, presumptuous, and unlearned we Americans are in the City of Lights? TDB...My chief complaint, aside from the fact that the entire Sabine staff seems completely fluent in English as if it were their first language, is that the ruling family of this couture house are played by British actors, and their delivery is quintessentially British. Yes, they nod to their supposed Frenchness by saying "maman" instead of "mum", but their classic British cold calculated restraint on display is a different animal than the typical French sangfroid. This cultural disconnect between the British actors trying (not trying) to act French is a bit jarring. Compare these three to how Nina and her mother are played to truly see the difference. Otherwise, i'm intrigued and will ride out the season. Beautiful costumes.
grace-95979 I had no expectations when starting this series and have been pleasantly surprised. I think the costuming is beautiful, the story line has promise, and ties to history are also great. I like it so much that this is the first review I've ever written and I hope it helps the powers-that-be know that people want them to make a season 2, 3, and so on. Two unexpected thumbs up!
