Free Guy, an action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds, made $28.1 million in its first three days in North America on August 13. Last week's winner, Task Force: All Hands on Board, dropped 70.4% to fifth place with $7.8 million. "Hold your Breath 2" and "Respect" rounded out the top two with $10.6 million and $8.8 million, respectively.

Free Guy, released by 20th Century Pictures, opened in 4,165 theaters without simultaneous streaming. The film scored high on CinemaScore A and 7.7 on IMDb. Despite an investment of $100 million, the original film has outperformed expectations amid the renewed outbreak. After all, the $185 million task Force X: All Hands on Board opened last week at $26.5 million.

Free Guy earned $22.5 million outside North America, bringing its cumulative total to $50.9 million. Guy, a bank clerk played by Ryan Reynolds, finds himself in the background of an adventure video game, but he doesn't want to be mediocre. Instead, he acts like a good Guy in the game, leading to the game being shut down by the developers, and Judy Comer's female player to help him fight back.
