Universal Pictures announced the purchase of a new version of the Exorcist trilogy for US$400 million, and plans to show some movies on its streaming platform Peacock. Alan Bostin, who starred in the 1973 version of The Exorcist, will return to starring, with David Gordon Green as the director.

It is reported that the new trilogy is a sequel. It tells that the child of Odom’s character is possessed by a demon. He seeks the help of Chris McNeill (Alan Posting) because of McNeill’s daughter. Reagan has also been possessed by demons.

The first part of the new The Exorcist trilogy is scheduled to be released on October 13, 2023. The release time of the latter two films has not yet been determined, but they may be launched directly on Peacock. The 1973 version of The Exorcist reached a global box office of 441 million U.S. dollars, won 10 Oscar nominations, and was the first thriller to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.
