Alicia I love this movie so much
Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
grayhorse_ranch We enjoyed the original story as it played out on the race track, and this movie does not disappoint. It was truly a feel good root for the underdog type of film that anyone can enjoy. Bravo, and thank you for a wonderful evening's entertainment.
Michele Clark I like this moving because it's based on a true story. Also if you watch any interviews with the cast, you learn that they actually spent time with the real people to learn the story before they played the roles so that they had all the facts so that it was "real" instead of acting. The storyline was great and you could tell the actors really had a true love for horses. I totally recommend it. 5 stars!!
danielshumway I'm the kind of movie fan that appreciates art and genius in film. This is not art. But, for its genre, it is a well-made wonderful, heart- warming, true story. I found out afterward, the film is quite faithful to the true story, which I appreciate. I enjoyed all the acting performances, I felt the actors' emotions, so I think they really put a lot of soul into it. I didn't know the outcome or the story at all so it made it really fun for me. I look forward to more movies with these actors and by the writer and director. If you like horse racing, you'll really enjoy it. It has a neat surprise (this is not a spoiler) in that one of the actors was actually involved in the true story. I read some tough reviews from professional critics. I really don't see what they were so critical of. I highly recommend it.
lavatch Based on a true story, "50 to 1" is an excellent story about a thoroughbred race horse and the improbable race to glory in the 2009 Kentucky Derby. The film is successful in establishing the bond among the trainers from New Mexico who believed in the horse and in each other. The relationship that was developed most completely was between Mark Allen (Christian Kane) and Chip Woolley (Skeet Ulrich). After the two men met and became friends in a barroom brawl, the owner trusted his trainer so fully that, despite his mediocre background, the friend had the freedom to use his techniques for training the horse named "Mine the Bird." The balance of the cast was also excellent, especially the jockey who was conscripted at the last moment to ride in the Kentucky Derby. The filming was effective with location footage from Churchill Downs. The recreation of the running of the 2009 Kentucky Derby was also first-rate.Although it was a modest film, "50 to 1" was well-conceived as a film not only about horse racing, but about the camaraderie of those who love these beautiful animals.
