Betty Blue Audience Reviews

ThiefHott Too much of everything
Colibel Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Cortechba Overrated
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
FountainPen I watched this on DVD, in French, with English subtitles. The long introductory scene of a naked couple engaged in sex was certainly at least "soft-porn". Unnecessary and unpleasant, though some reviewers plainly liked that a lot. The nudity includes full frontal, male and female. The story is simple, the cinematography competent, the direction OK, the acting fair. There are long boring scenes, and scripting could be far, far better. The movie seemed to be an early rehearsal. From me, an overall rating of 3/10. I found that I had zero empathy with either of the leads; the film had minimal impression on me, neither was it a total waste of time, but I would never wish to bother to see it again, and I cannot recommend it.
Vihren Mitev It will come out that three-hour movies are good. But in our times, I think, the people who would watch or even make such a long movie are very few. I stay fan of the format. Now, in the beginning I thought that I will watch an erotic movie. I did not guess. Then I thought that I am watching some idealization of the perfect relationship. I guessed partly. In the final I was drifted away by the harmonic melody of the couples and by the natural advance of the events in their life but then I was released in a shock situation that I witnessed.Natural advance of the events in their life is the key to this riddle. Let to the most intimate in the relationship of the both lovers, there was not possible not to co-experience and the good and the bad that was happening to them. Their relation, maybe, is an example for the man's and woman's relations, although that his yielding seemed to me like a gallant escape of showing who commands at home. There was a symbiosis. But if every man gets a woman like in this movie, the bright future will be cloudy with possible chances to rain.I wished the end to be positive. In this case - we leave place to the creative working and text-making, woman's hope and mysteriousness.http://vihrenmitevmovies.blogspot.com/
gaviao1973 There are many very good reviews here, but I just wanted to say that if you watch this excellent film, please make sure you watch the director's cut. I have watched both versions and the clumsily edited 120min version is very poor by comparison with the full length cut. It also leaves some central elements of the film completely and frustratingly unexplained. By contrast, the full version is a compelling story of a particular and intense relationship and it succeeds in raising a number of broad questions about love, passion, loyalty and commitment. I think everyone should watch this film but no one should watch the shorter edit.
jcjs33-1 i saw the 185 minute version and maybe that's why i don't give it a higher review...i don't agree with Roger Ebert's take on this but i do think it's way over rated...the acting is good enough and the settings, hues, rooms, buildings, camera work etc. are spectacular and beautiful to look at...the couple's relationship gets to be a drag to watch...one, no nuttier than they other...if he cared about her he would've come up with a shrink or something...i felt, after awhile, the thing was too contrived...i heard one reviewer say Betty Blue is great and Million Dollar Baby was lousy and i wished i hadn't read that dude because he told the ending...at least this is a spoiler...i think Betty Blue is OK but Million Dollar Baby light years more enjoyable and moves along telling lots more in the time alloted...this is a pretty film, a slow film, well acted and put together...the story is contrived too much...a different, but same, Cuckoos Nest...it's a comedy at times cutting itself up i think...some of the characters , at times , 'over acted'...i enjoyed it though.
