Big Stone Gap Audience Reviews

Crwthod A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Goofygal21 I hadn't seen many previews about this movie but I had seen an interview with Jenna Elfman before it came out.The only thing I had trouble with in the beginning was a few of the characters I wasn't sure their relationship with Ave and their professions. But all was explained as the story went on. This was an excellent movie. One minute I was laughing, one minute I was crying. My only problem was why did Jack and Ave wait so long to express their feelings? Ending was different than I was expecting, hoping that Jack and Ave would go to Italy for their honeymoon. But it still ending great. If you see it on DVD, be sure and watch all the bonus features.
peterpetroski-13173 So nice to see an accurate view of Americana. Lush photography, numerous subplots, human themes, and quirk characters- a movie that is more like us than the "classical" movies are.Ashley Judd is true to her roots and the nuances and depth of her acting resonates. Patrick Wilson is all that we expect him to be: If they ever made "The Phantom of the Mountains", he would be the hero! And Whoopi, as always, nails the obvious with offbeat humor and insights. Even Shug makes a cameo. And, a true-to-1978 UK shirt is slipped in. Ever have a mean aunt? A luscious librarian?? A wild girlfriend??? A friend who is more deserving of help than anyone you ever knew????Feel like sighing, smiling, and identifying Americana artifacts? - Go see!!
Rick L. Schultz Go see Big Stone Gap, the movie this weekend. This is a corny, fun, hayride of a romantic comedy that is all about Southwest Virginia and our people. Check it out. The movie was shot in Big Stone Gap with both it's natural beauty, and country culture. The accents are accurate. The story reflects the struggles in a small coal town and the heroic journey of Ava Maria, her friends, and family. The comic elements are subtle and low key. If you are not from here, some of the humor will fly over your head as if you were an 8 year old. This story has heart. At my viewing, I saw people that likely had not been in a theater in 30 years. Demographics 30-80 years old. Remarkable. Hollywood are you listening? Big Stone Gap will be a cult classic, just like Dirty Dancing. Bring Kleenex!
breannafaith Fantastic Movie! Captures the heart of a small town, while making every viewer want a taste of this down home country town. The love story compares to no other, the sacrifice, the warmth, the detail. Love Love Love this movie, I simply did not want it to end. Everyone needs to see this movie, it will make you laugh, cry, and even snort a little at times. A film that captures what life is all about, loving others. LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! The casting fits the bill. And this is a movie that I can honestly say follows the book to a T! All the way through you can trace the movie by the book. This movie makes you feel at home, as if you are living the story right along side Ave Maria and Jack Mack! By far the best movie I have ever seen! Trigiani simply outdone herself with this one.
