Cargo Audience Reviews

Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Five legged dog Earth is a wasteland; those rich enough to leave it behind have instead decamped to the paradise-like Rhea. Laura Portmann's sister has already won a lottery place on Rhea and so Portmann, a doctor, joins a cargo ship to earn enough money to follow her. While the rest of the crew are in cryosleep, Portmann makes the disturbing discovery that someone - or something - else is on the ship with them.Cargo very much feels like a film set in space, rather than a film about space: it's beautiful and convincing to look at. It also has a reasonable premise and some moments of tension and drama. Cargo thinks big in every sense ... but it doesn't quite have the plot or running time to pull it off. If you've seen films that cover common ground (Alien, Elysium and Oblivion, among many others) it won't help that Cargo attempts to cover so much in so little time. Ultimately it feels glossy, but the themes are a little clichéd now and the characterisation skimpy.
ksandidge .I love sci fi and as far as that goes, this one fits the bill. Others have said it was like a prelude to Bladerunner and i get that; it also has an element of 'The Matrix' which is not fleshed out in the film. I watched a version that had no subs; rather, it was English voiced-over. Personally, i would have liked a bit more back-story of the origins of the ones who built the ships and the space stations as well as more about the ones who remained on earth. 5 stars. It was a chick flick, AFAIC.
justgoscha If the acting wasn't so bland and some plot points would be left out, like the really forced romance, in favor of some implicit background story, then this could have been a great movie. The acting is at times over-dramatized which makes you laugh, at other times it lacks any emotion and feels like they are robots reading their lines. It kind of starts out like a horror movie, reminiscent of Alien, then progresses into a mystery scifi. The set is beautiful and gives you this cold space-ship feeling like Alien did. The CGI is not as good, but there is fortunately not much to see of it. The story is actually quite interesting, but the acting makes it fall flat. The whole world does not feel believable, because it lacks the details. There are no casual dialogs between the crew members that could tell something about their dreams or wishes or the world in general. What are their everyday problems? The atmosphere and the visuals, especially of the interior are quite good. If you have 1.5 hours to waste and are a science fiction fan, than you could give this a go, but otherwise you should probably skip it.
amesmonde 2267, an ecological collapse has made Earth uninhabitable, those who remain live in space stations. Dr Portmann boards one of these stations to find salvation on the far off planet, Rhea. Events take a sinister turn as she discovers that there is something untoward going on that puts her in danger.Franka Potent looking Anna Katharina Schwabroh gives a great performance as Laura Portmann in this slow burning sci-fi conspiracy. As with most European films there's less gloss and the characters feel authentic with the supporting casting giving equally as good turns as the fine special effects. While Arnold Bucher and Ivan Engler's story may come as no surprise to science fiction fans its the excellent visuals reminiscent of Alien and Blade Runner to name a few by directors Ivan Engler and Ralph Etter that deserve credit and capture the imagination.Yes its derivative, but its acted and executed so well it arguably becomes definitive encompassing the better of its kind.
