Micitype Pretty Good
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
KissEnglishPasto ......................................................from Pasto,Colombia...Via: L.A. CA., CALI, COLOMBIA and ORLANDO, FLWhen Disney Studios wants to produce a film that definitely is not for children, it is produced under the name Touchstone. Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere is a Touchstone film!...And of course, so is CASANOVA.With Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) in the title role and Jeremy Irons, Lena Olin and Oliver Platt also in the cast, Casanova is a film that has a lot to offer. Visually, both the scenes of Venice and the photography, in general, are exquisite. The costumes also demonstrate great variety and are quite impressive.Several of the story line situations and characters are extremely humorous. The interpretations rendered by Jeremy Irons and Oliver Platt are truly fabulous. True, most of the historical references do not match reality, but, after all, it is a comedy....and most important of all, it's a rousingly entertaining movie! Of course, there are romantic elements in the story development. (With a title like Casanova, could it possibly be any different?) Even the music is spot on to transport viewers back to 1758!8*..…ENJOY/DISFRUTELA! Any comments, questions or observations, in English o en Español, are most welcome!.....KissEnglishPasto@Yahoo.com
utgard14 Fictionalized story based on the historical figure of Casanova. It's a chick flick with a decent cast that has little to work with. Heath Ledger is alright but it's a fluff part so don't expect much. Sienna Miller is pretty but forgettable. Jeremy Irons and Oliver Platt are slumming. Dolla dolla bill y'all! It's supposed to be a comedy but I didn't laugh once. I was bored throughout most of it. I hate to pick on it because it's not a poorly-made movie. Just not something that interests me much. If you're a big fan of Ledger or Miller, or if you just like these types of movies, you might enjoy this more than I did. Otherwise avoid it because it's not funny or sexy and certainly not romantic. It's just kind of there.
skyhouse5 So, where are the other nineteen, who voted "no" on "noralee's" comments herein. Are they, forsooth, idiots? Methinks so. If anyone can, now that young Heath has been long buried and lately celebrated for a cartoon carbon of another juvenile stripe, still ignore Ledger's "prodigious" talents, let them argue their point(s). This young phenomenon out of Perth? in every role I have witnessed to date, has been an authentic revelation of talent, genius?, along with an avid and earnest drive to push the "envelope" of essay, as in trying the limit. Hwre, he is a "boy" for sure, and not quite a "man." Why? Well, maybe it's the postpubertal excess of sexual energy, as in simple studly sufficiency/ After all, it's not the "tea," it's the "sympathy," as in simpatico. Such hilarities aside, most of us are neither satyrs or nymphos, the fact of the matter is that ALL of us "fantasize" one way or another on this "universal" obsession. So long as we can still "ebtertain" same, that is. What a loss. What a waste. Ledger is one more sacrifice at the altar of our joined fears and hatreds and revulsions of the sexist variety. And his far too early passing is a sad comment on our contempo4ary contempts and lack of either guts or understandings of what human "sexuality" truly embraces -- from the nurturing to the murderous.
dromasca The character of Casanova is a great screen opportunity for historic and romantic films, dealing with the balance between morality and pleasure, between feminism and sexual conquest. Based on these premises the story in this version of Casanova creates an imaginary moment of romantic entanglement in the romantic career of the hero, having him fall for a beautiful feminist philosopher and Renaissance maid. Yet, despite all these starting points the Casanova version of Swedish director Lasse Hallström lacks spark and succeeds to be too boring and too expected, even while allowing to Heath Ledger to give one of the most complete roles of his too short career and despite enjoying the participation of Jeremy Irons in a supporting role. The story in the film stays too much within the limits of the conventional historic comedy, and simply lacks the sex-appeal viewers expect from a film about Casanova. We are left with the beautiful landscape of Venice, and the poignant performance of Ledger, but this is not enough to make this film one to remember.
