Crocodile Audience Reviews

Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Wuchak RELEASED TO VIDEO IN 2000, "Crocodile" chronicles events in Southern Cal when a bunch of college kids go out to a scenic vacation lake for Spring Break where they encounter a giant crocodile concerned about her eggs. To be expected in such a scenario the youths "party" and cuss a lot, so stay away if either offends you."Crocodile" was directed by Tobe Hooper, the hallowed director of the acclaimed "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974). I'm not a big fan of "Texas" (although I don't hate it either) and feel "Crocodile" is a more entertaining effort. These movies shouldn't really be compared, however, since "Texas" is serious slasher horror whereas "Crocodile" was made to be more amusing. There's a fake-looking CGI scene in the final act depicting the crocodile jumping over a boat that doesn't work at all, not to mention, it was highly unbelievable (of course, the WHOLE film is unbelievable, huh?). Other than that the F/X are fine for Grade B horror; in fact, the creature looks superb."Crocodile" may not be great cinema but it's got loads of energy and is amusing creature feature entertainment. Anyone watching a flick called "Crocodile" knows up front that it ain't gonna be "Apocalypse Now." It's just a fun, re-watchable creature-on-the-loose flick highlighted by some curvy cuties: Sommer Knight as the stunning Sunny, Julie Mintz as the classy Annabelle and Caitlin Martin as the intelligent Claire. On the other side of the gender spectrum, Mark McLachlan stands out as the Tom Cruise-ish protagonist, Brady, and Chris Solari as the foil, Duncan. For comparison, "Crocodile" is overall way more entertaining than 1999's "Lake Placid" and superior to 1980's "Alligator." It's easily one of the best crocogator flicks.THE FILM RUNS 93 minutes and was shot at Lake Piru & Sable Ranch in Northern Los Angeles County and Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.GRADE: A-
gerrard2 okay, okay, i understand that the film was never dreaming to be a success. and probably will never be a success either. But Crocodile is one of those films which are if you like a guilty pleasure. it certainly doesn't match up to lake placid alligator for that matter but it does what any film intends to do, which is entertain people. And I'm proud to admit I'm one of those people who really enjoyed it. Yes there was many predictable moments and the crocodile looked like computer animation. But this shouldn't be taken away from Tobe Hoopers ability on how to keep a target audience entertained. its very clichéd with some of the characters which is the typical hero, the girl who slept with the other girls boyfriend, the bad guy turned good, the friendships idiot guy and off course the local law enforcement officer. If anything is to be flawed in this film none of it should be blamed on Tobe Hooper as the low budget for this film is the many reasons why this film went straight to DVD. For example if Tobe Hooper was given around 6 million to make this movie, i believe this would of been a very profitable movie. If you can put up with a CGI looking crocodile you'll find this movie very interesting indeed. Hoopers done better, but you cant fault the man for his efforts on this Croc flick.
Michael_Elliott Crocodile (2000) ** (out of 4) Direct to DVD film from director Tobe Hooper about a bunch of college students who hit the river for some sex and beer but end up being menaced by a twenty-foot croc. The film starts off okay but wears out of steam by the fifty minute mark. The characters are all very obnoxious so it's hard to care if any of them live or die. The CGI effects are among the worst I've ever seen. Hooper's direction puts this slightly above most other direct to DVD titles but the film is a long way off from Alligator.
WithTheLightsOut Let me start off by reminding everyone that Tobe Hooper is a great director, who challenged cinema in the 70's and made some great movies. 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Poltergiest' are both great scary movies and went some way in my decision to buy this movie, I worked out from the box it was straight to DVD, but the tag 'Directed By Tobe Hooper' had me thinking about uncovering a low budget horror gem. Well, after watching this movie I was speechless, from the terrible visual effects (note to low budget production teams, use animatronics and prosthetic materials and not CGI, it's cheaper and looks way cooler than badly done CGI and add a little charm to the movie) horrible acting (to be expected from a low budget flick most of the time) and really quite turgid direction from a once great cinematic force. The whole film reeks of turgid pointlessness. It's not even a fun movie, or so bad it's good like 'Shark Attack'.Have a copy of 'Poltergeist at hand if you do watch this. You'll need it to forgive Tobe.
