Cut Bank Audience Reviews

JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Dorathen Better Late Then Never
Connianatu How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
LeonLouisRicci If You are Experiencing a Severe Coen Brothers Jones or Can't Wait for the New Season of Fargo on TV, it is Possible that this may be an Enjoyable Light Snack. Hardly Fulfilling but something to Munch On.The Slight of Hand Casting of Billy Bob Thornton, John Malkovich, Oliver Platt, and Bruce Dern is a Come On that is none too sincere. Sure, all are here to Quirk Things up and They Do but Not Enough to make this Nothing more than a Recycled, Dark Humored Been There Done That. The Thing is Without Style or much Substance and it Moves from one Intentionally Offbeat Reveal to Another and it Plods Along its Unconventionality with as much Flare as a Fireman's Parade on a Summer Afternoon.Stone Face and Emotionless Liam Hemsworth is the Focal Point and He seems to Barely have a Heartbeat Relying on the Gravitas of the Stellar Character Actors Orbiting this Off Center World. Michael Stuhlbarg Stands Out as the Quirkiest of the Quirks, a Mentally Challenged Townie that Everyone Knows and Avoids at all cost for Good Reason. Now, They really Do Have a Good Reason to Stay Out of the Man's Way because He won't be Denied His Priority Mail.
bkoganbing With rare exceptions small towns in American cinema are between two extremes. Either they are the ideal place, a shelter against the corruption of the big city or they're these stifling places of conformity where people want to bust loose as soon as possible. In It's A Wonderful Life George Bailey finds it first one way then the other. But in Cut Bank both the title of the film and the town where all the characters live it's most definitely the latter at least that's what Liam Hemsworth finds. But he's got obligations and a girl he loves in Teresa Palmer daughter of Billy Bob Thornton the richest guy in town. Hemsworth one fine day gets lucky, as he's videoing Palmer for a local beauty pageant in a field he happens to tape David Burke a very silent and stoic Blackfoot Indian shoot mailman Bruce Dern and then take off with the mail truck.Too good to be true. Clues to solving a federal crime involving the mails is payable by Uncle Sam's post office with a six figure reward. And postal official Oliver Platt is here to pay off. But when things are too good to be true they generally are. Then some bodies start piling up and a local eccentric played by Michael Stuhlbarg starts on a hunt for a missing parcel that was supposed to be delivered in the mail by Dern. Just like Fargo, another small town setting with a crime spree that originates with a plan dreamed up by an amateur and carried out by idiots. Cut Bank, Montana is certainly not Bedford Falls. It's more like the film Fargo. In fact there's one very definite parallel, the relationship between Hemsworth and Thornton is almost a duplicate of the one that amateur master criminal William H. Macy has with his father-in-law Harve Presnell. Presnell and Thornton treat the son-in- law and prospective son-in-law like manure which is half the problem.Sheriff John Malkovich whose sleepy little Montana town has never recorded a murder is soon awash in bodies. But when the truth comes out there's a surprise ending I guarantee you won't see coming especially if you think this is a Fargo clone. The cast ensemble delivers good performances but if I had to pick one out it would be Stuhlbarg. His town eccentric hermit is underplayed and frightening at the same time, a difficult thing to pull off.Cut Bank, Montana a town with an unexpected crime wave.
Bob Rutzel Dwayne (Liam Hemsworth) concocts a plan to video tape the murder of mailman Georgie (Bruce Dern) to get the $100,000 reward and leave Cut Bank, Montana. Georgie and Match (David Burke) the Indian who does the actual shooting are part of the plan. Georgie must stay out of site. Complications arise when Derby Milton needs the package being sent to him in the mail and he goes looking and isn't concerned about anything else. Match was supposed to burn the mail, but didn't. Oh, oh!Cut Bank is a town in Montana that boasts being the coldest place on earth. So, in a way, this could be considered a FARGO type murder story as we have a plan that doesn't go like it should have. However, the weather isn't cold yet: it's summer time. You will see Derby be a better detective than Sheriff Vogel (John Malkovich) the way he goes about locating his package but he has a one-track mind and is oblivious to anything else going on around him Sheriff Vogel slowly investigates the murder after having seen the shooting on the video. Joe (Oliver Platt) the Postal Inspector from Washington DC, just needs to see the body to be able to award the $100,000. Big Stan (Billy Bob Thornton) runs an auto repair shop and Dwayne works for him. Cassendra (Teresa Palmer) is Big Stan's daughter and Dwayne's girlfriend, who is practicing to win the Miss Cut Bank title. Now you are up to date. This is an excellent cast in this well told story. There are some chuckles to be had, but this is not a comedy per se. A comedy of errors……sort of. It's a fun movie. Yes, some people die, but Hey: it's only a movie. (waited a long time to throw that one in, eh?)There is a significant twist at the end - I didn't expect - but it worked well with all involved. (7/10)Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: Yes, not much though.
thepuzzlingcentaur So, the short story is that I was traveling across Germany with my friend for the whole week (we were on a business trip) We had to wait a lot and we were very bored. That friend of mine brought a laptop with us with lots of movies stored on it, because we needed something to pass our time. This information is necessary for anyone to picture how bored we were during the long waiting hours. During that week we watched mediocre, good and bad movies. When you are bored, you will find enjoyment in bad movies, especially if those movies fall into "so bad it's good" category. When you are really bored, an average adult (non-critic) viewer will find qualities in newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. But there are those movies that are so boring it will force you to do daily chores like washing your dishes, iron your clothes or clean the room you are in.And this is one of those movie. This movie was so TERRIBLE that it made me uncomfortable. I kept looking at my watch and around me half the time. My friend fell asleep. I was thinking about closing the laptop and going to sleep myself, but I somehow forced myself to watch the whole thing because I didn't feel tired and I had nothing to do (no chores to pass the time). I assume it tried to be funny, but it failed to be funny and I love all kinds of comedies, and that includes black comedies, movies with random, weird, bizarre or childish humour. It obviously tried to be some kind of thriller, but when nothing makes any sense, then we are talking about a bad thriller. Acting ranged from absolutely terrible to mediocre. Writing and dialogues were disturbingly bad. It seemed like half of the dialogue was copied over from old movies (cliches, of course). Pretty much everything about this movie failed to impress me. The only thing interesting about this movie is that asocial guy in the glasses but even he wasn't interesting enough to me....now I can't even remember his name and it's been barely a week. I will mention the most important facts again: I was bored, I had no expectations for this movie and I had no idea what I will watch. But even then, even under these circumstances....this movie was painful to watch, completely unbearable. It made me physically uncomfortable. While this is not -the- worst movie I've watched, it is definitively on the list of worst movies I have ever seen. And I have watched a lot of bad movies that do not belong on that list.2016 EDIT: I had to fix my poor engRish grammar a bit.
