Cutting Class Audience Reviews

Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
callanvass High school student Paula Carlson's school life has taken a drastic turn for the worse. Her boyfriend Dwight is a bit of a loose cannon, Brian is a mentally disturbed student who has spent time in the loony bin. Things get even worse when students and staff are getting murdered, but who's doing the killing? This slasher is so banal, it's not even funny. Everything about this slasher screams uninspired. This could have been cheesy fun, but it takes itself way too seriously, and becomes overly talky to boot. There is no suspense and the killer is completely predictable. It tries to throw us a swerve at the end, but I saw it coming a mile away. There are some major plot holes as well. How is the Father able to travel after being hit with arrows? I thought it was silly. The death scenes are pretty lame. We get an impaling on a trampoline, and a head is bashed in. We also get an Axe & hammer in the head. Check out that surreal power drill duel at the end between Brad Pitt & Donovan Leitch Jr. It has to be seen to be believed. The performances are poor. You didn't think I'd forget about Brad Pitt, did you? He's only one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. His talent level is too easily transparent, he's too good for this movie. Brad regrets doing this movie, and rightfully so. He was fun as a rebel. Donovan Leitch Jr. enigmatic character was OK at best, I felt he overdid the hysterics. Jill Schoelen does what she can with the poor material. She's cute as a button and held her own. Roddy McDowall is here for a paycheck, I assume, why else would he star in this crud? He plays a weird pervert in this film.Overall, everyone has to start somewhere! Even greats like Brad Pitt had to succumb their standards to this drivel at some point. I love slashers, try to seek out as many as possible. I deeply regret watching this one3.4/10
Jordan Barrett I really enjoyed this movie which was surprising as I thought I wouldn't but I really did. I like the fact that It keeps you guess who the killer is and you know it is either brain or Dwight but you are never quite sure who it is until it is revealed. Which one is it you ask well you are just going to have to watch the movie to find out. Although there were not any moments in this movie that scared me witless there were ea few times that I jumped out of my seat a little bit. The scene where the music is following Paula and the maths teacher from room to room is by far my favorite scene in this movie. It may surprise you that Brad Pitt in my opinion was not the stand out actor in this movie it was Donovan Leitch jr. I really liked the way he played the character in this movie and think by far he was the best actor in this movie. I also like the fact that it has humor all the way through it particular at the end with Paula's dad. Watch out for the pun he makes. Overall I thought this movie was really entertaining and that is why I gave it 7/10. I do recommend that if you just want to be entertained by a horror movie then check this out!
The_Void When people talk about the greatest Brad Pitt films - Cutting Class rarely gets a mention, and I just can't understand why. Nah, I'm just kidding; but actually I was surprised to find that this film is nowhere near as bad as its reputation suggests. Sure, it's a long way from brilliant - but what do people seriously expect when going into an eighties slasher? Anyway...it has to be said that it's never really clear exactly what director Rospo Pallenberg is aiming for; there's not enough scares for a horror film, not enough (intentional) laughs for a comedy and nowhere near enough suspense for a thriller...but in spite of all this, the film somehow manages to succeed in being an entertaining mess. The film takes place at a high school and top student Paula Carson's father has gone away on a hunting trip. Around the same time, her boyfriend's former friend Brian Woods has been released from a mental hospital and his appearance has coincided with a string of murders at the school.Naturally the biggest talking point of this film is the lead performance from Brad Pitt. I'm sure that the man himself would rather forget that this film ever existed; but to his credit, he leads the film well and this performance does show some early promise. Besides that, I'd rather watch this than recent rubbish such as Oceans Eleven (and sequels). The other two leads are not so great; Jill Schoelen (best remembered for role in the 1987 classic The Stepfather) is awkward, while Donovan Leitch looks a bit ridiculous in his long black coat. The film tries to be something of a whodunit; but unfortunately forgets to add in any red herrings, which means that it's always more than a little obvious who the murderer is. The film does feature a few decent murder scenes that are fairly imaginative; though not particularly bloody. There's not a great deal of suspense in the film and it tends to rely a lot on the characters and situation; which is usually interesting enough to keep the film ticking over. It all boils down to a decent conclusion and we are treated to some interesting reasoning behind the murder's motives. All in all, Cutting Class is not great; but it's decent entertainment at least and is worth a look.
acidburn-10 Well for one thing not every actor started on the a-list in fact quite a few big names started in horror's such as Tom Hanks (He Know's You're Alone), Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween), Kevin Bacon (Friday The 13th), Jennifer Aniston (Leprecahn), Clint Eastwood (Tarantula). So Brad Pitt is just one of the many line of actors more or less starting out in the horror genre and he'll sure won't be the last.Basically the story goes there's a killer on the loose in a local high school and it's up to our plucky young heroine Paula (Jill Schoelen) to figure out who it is, could it be her boyfriend Dwight (Brad Pitt) the high school jock or Brian (Donovan Leitch JR) who just got out of the mental hospital for killing his father and he's attracted to Paula and plus she's slightly interested in him as well.Cutting Class is a campy fun horror movie that shouldn't be taken too seriously, the attempts of humour do fall flat in some places and plus there is zero tension and some of the performances fall flat in some places too. Roddy MacDowell's turn as Mr. Dante, the principal of the school. At one point he gives Paula a new Cheerleader outfit and invites her to his office to get it. "It's on the floor," he says, and has her bend over to get it so he can have a look at her undies, is a funny as well as creepy. Martin Mull even shows up as Paula's father who gets shot with an arrow at the beginning and spends the rest of the movie walking home which is totally unrealistic and plus Two kids and a teacher disappear… AND NO ONE SAYS ANYTHING! A janitor mops up blood in the school gym after a basketball game and he opts not to tell anyone about this. I guess the budget couldn't include a cop car or a fake badge for the sake of credibility. When you first see this movie, yes it is surprising to see Brad Pitt but after a short big he blends in with the rest of the woodwork, Jill Schoelen does a fine job but she does fall flat in some places (The Stepfather) was her better horror movie in which she turns in a much better performance and Donovan Leitch JR is OK but you can't whether it's his intention to not take himself to seriously or is he just a bad actor but anyway I enjoyed his emotional performance, he's really funny.Anyway Cutting Class isn't a total waste of time but there are better high school slashers out there and that does a better job of covering up who the killer is in the very end like in this movie it's totally obvious.
