Cyrus Audience Reviews

Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
YouHeart I gave it a 7.5 out of 10
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Paynbob It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
namashi_1 Jay & Mark Duplass's 'Cyrus' is strange little film, that's boasted by Great Performances & some really interesting moments. Definitely, A Good Watch!'Cyrus' Synopsis: John and Molly, a divorced middle aged man and a single mother meet at a friends party and start up a small relationship, all John has to do now is meet Molly's son... Cyrus. Trouble Follows...'Cyrus' is a tale of love, bond & also, enmity. Cyrus isn't a likable guy to be around & the exchanges he & John share, his mom's new boyfriend, are interesting to watch. At times, you laugh, at times, you're furious. Jay & Mark Duplass's Screenplay is good, but not always. It begins well, slows down in the middle, but comes up towards the end. The Dialogue, however, are realistic to the core. Their Direction is simplistic, as always.Performance-Wise: John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei and Catherine Keener spice up Cyrus. They are supremely talented actors & all of them, portray their parts with remarkableness. Reilly is at his finest as John, the guy who's down and out, while Hill shows another side of his altogether as the hard to like or believe Cyrus. Tomei is extraordinary as Molly, a women torn between a good man & a difficult son. And lastly Keener, sexier than ever, is an absolute delight as John's ex-wife Jamie. On the whole, 'Cyrus' works, in its own way.
Sexy Scientist I read the plot headlines here on IMDb and I was in the dilemma weather to watch it or not, but just with a gut feeling I gave it a try. As soon as it started (even before the first scene), it sucked me in. The music was very good, the sound mixing felt capturing, then the first scene arrived..... shot with a handicam with quick movements and a digital zoom. During a conversation, many a times there are no separate shots for the two actors but the camera went between the characters. And the zooming in and out.... that was plain horrible. I mean who uses a digital zoom in a movie? It was so irritating that it was impossible to concentrate on the movie itself. But still I watched it... till the end. So, now I feel that it is my responsibility to tell you that though the concept is very good, the story is not. None of the characters seem believable. Last 10 min were pretty dramatic, sensitive and mellow.... total Hollywood stuff. My advice, skip it.
l_rawjalaurence The plot of CYRUS is straightforward: Joihn (John C. Reilly) falls in love with Molly (Marisa Tomei), but finds his amorous advances frustrated by Molly's son Cyrus (Jonah Hill), who cannot contemplate the idea of his mother seeing someone else and leaving him (Cyrus) alone. John and Cyrus end up fighting with one another, but the film ends by suggesting some kind of reconciliation between the three of them. What distinguishes Jay and Mark Duplass' film is its underlying sense of irony: just like Cyrus, John appears unable (or unwilling) to allow his nearest and dearest to live their own lives. John is perpetually conversing with his ex-wife Jamie (Catherine Keener), while remaining blissfully oblivious to the fact that Jamie is about to marry Tim (Matt Walsh). Like Cyrus, John cannot let go: the two protagonists are uncannily similar to one another. It is only at the end of the film that both of them come to recognize their kinship. The film is shot in quasi-documentary style, with the camera perpetually encircling the characters' faces, punctuated by occasional zooms. This gives CYRUS an intense quality: the directors will not allow us to focus on other aspects of the mise-en-scene. The characters matter. The script (also by the Duplass brothers) contains more than its fair share of ironies. Definitely worth watching.
expe67 i thought id write a critic because i enjoyed watching this movie.actually its that rare kind of movie that you slowly become addictive with the characters and you wish that it doesn't end.all three actors are really convincing with Jonah AGAIN stealing the show.this guy is emerging in being one of the finest actors around,i hate saying "the next.." but he IS the next Dustin Hoffman for me.quite average in appearance, but once on screen he radiates .great talent, and after seeing Moneyball i'm convinced he should turn his career and play serious movies, because he gives so much in them.Tomei is as always talented and really charming in her own personal style.OK i'm a fan together with the rest of the galaxy.i understand in some reviews being a little angry that she should pick this guy to date.OK she has a child, and maybe she doesn't have the time to date, plus her life is so complex that you really must dig her to give it a good shot.i understand all that.but i also understand that i v gone to many many.. parties in my life.if you look like that guy in looks, and you re awkward,a girl with the looks of Marisa is never going to see your inside wonderful world in a party, and give you a good chance in dating.we all know this to be true.this only happens in stupid movies.and this one is no exception.i'm sorry but you have to be cruel sometimes.having said that, the rest of the movie moves with logic, with Reilly right after meeting his girl of dreams, faces impossible situation like the son rival, with the again outstanding performance of Jonah, who should have won an academy award for best supporting role. the chemistry of the characters is great, although Reilly is not your first choice for Marisa, but isn't that really the theme of the movie?three people that try to do the best they can,in the real world.cause in another one,Marisa would be dating..i don't know..me? hehe,or in a movie lets say Brad Pitt.anyway..,a movie i would recommend .nice, unpretentious, human and well acted.
