It's difficult to remember what porn was like in the 70s. In this era when pornstars are on TV, date movie stars, and are on album covers, the secret world of men in raincoats attending sleazy theaters is hard to imagine. Now most people see porn on their TV or internet. Once upon a time, though, it was a big deal for a porn star to hit the mainstream, and John Holmes did just that. With a 14 inch endowment and not so good looks, Holmes made thousands of movies and slept with thousands of women. He became well-known for his Johnny Wadd series, where he was an international man of mystery, and hardcore sex. Eventually he got heavily into drugs, got involved in a brutal murder, and finally died of AIDS.

Exhausted: John C. Holmes, the Real Story Audience Reviews

Colibel Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
mikelcat I'm the age to appreciate Mr Holmes in his prime and I've got to say I never really got it about him . He always seemed semi-interested in his work and was man enough to cop to that , but it showed in his films . Secondly in a mystifying tendency that still lingers these actors can have two or three or ten women to interact with but still seem to only be able to ''complete'' the scene by their on hands . I don't get that at all , its like having a Rolls Royce ready to drive you somewhere and choosing to walk , but they almost all do it .To me it doesn't reflect what a man would do but then again most men wouldn't do it with cameras lights and other people in the room .So although I didn't really dig his work I surely would have traded places with him .To much of anything ruins the thrill though .RIP Johnny !
Derek Williams I saw Exhausted in the movie theater when it was released in the 1980's.Video really hadn't made the inroads that came later.I remember reading about John C. Holmes being on the run.In fact there was a large poster with an enlarged newspaper article which had people of all walks of life stopping and reading the article. So John C. Holmes was definitely mainstream already.Who was to know that two different mainstream Hollywood movies would come out based on his life.Anyway, the documentary still holds up all these years later.the director of Boogie Nights definitely studied this film.i agree with another reviewer about the superior quality of the explicit sex shown in this film and others of the era. That is to say it was and is far superior to anything put out today.i don't even bother with the new releases because the sex scenes are so absolutely boring and by-the-numbers.Exhausted is an excellent expose of the legendary John C. Holmes.Definitely worth a look for John C. Holmes fans!
excess1973 I am a big fan of John Holmes and this movie is a must see for those who want to see what he was like in action. Not only in scenes with famous porn actresses but just in his everyday life. This film has numerous interviews with John and you really get a feel for who he was, how he behaved and how he rambled. You'll totally see the comparison to Boogie Nights as this film was the inspiration for that movie, and going down the line to Wonderland. None of them have the real John Holmes interview footage, and I've heard that all of it comes from this little ditty. Sure it's an old movie, but it's a must see for those who have an appetite for reality porn.
ajji-2 i confess: i am a fan of the golden age of porn. and out here, it's hard to get any such films. all that is available is the latest fodder, which usually is a mechanized, by-the-numbers effort. so it was a treat to see some footage from superior films, and to get some info about John Holmes. watch this as a companion to 'boogie nights', if u r a fan.
