Alicia I love this movie so much
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
tallhappyjake This is a meaningful film about a man who seeks redemption after decades in prison for a mistake that he made when he was so young.I always liked Kenny Johnson from his work on the Shield and remember seeing him early on in Blade. Truly great performances from Kenny Johnson, Brad Dourif, Rainn Wilson, David Marciano, Laura San Giacomo, and Michael Sheen. Some of the scenes of Kenny Johnson walking in different locations in Los Angeles are some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen in film. Director George Pappy, Jr. has created a deep story here. I am looking forward to seeing George's next film. I saw that it is called Dark Well, but do not know much about it.
dondevries11 Loved George's "adjusting to life on the streets after long term incarceration with extraordinary complications" movie. It took me in against my will through timing, plotting, and subtle like a velvet covered sledge hammer intrigue, and there I was, involved. Not necessarily pretty, but very satisfying to me. I will watch it again. Novice nonreviewer cooookie summation. Low key shake hands while tickling the palm beginning; Eerily seductive; And strangely believable middle; bang up, bang down, bang inbetween ending. Bang, Bang, Bang - You got me!!! I will watch this movie again, and maybe twice more. Then it will be like The Green Girl, watched three times, and the enjoyment and satisfaction will grow each time as I wonder and marvel about how it was made so well.
dcastrillo I was drawn up in to the story from the beginning, talk about a character driven plot which took an almost eastern perspective in learning to deal with a constant torrent of life's vicissitudes focused on one outcome - being free of it all. Kenny Johnson gives a solid performance as an ex con trying to escape a sociopath gang boss played very effectively by Brad Dourif. Rainn Wilson demonstrates a range of talent that was unexpected as a spineless cousin making me wish he would show up in more straight dramatic roles diverging from his usual comic characters. The end was completely unexpected yet believable. Impressive well written and directed script with a great cast, good music and compelling performances made me glad I saw this one at the Valley Film Festival.
dwcuts1973 Never has the simpleton Pfc. Louden Downey echoed through a story's protagonist as this one. The typical story of a man turning his life around but finds himself constantly between the proverbial rock and hard place. The progression of the protagonist is by no means aided by the actor's attempt at portrayal of innocence lost. The story is simply mundane, unbelievable, and filled with glaring predictability. From "not knowing how to do this" in an attempt at dating after a stint in prison to the "has little Johnny learned his lesson that crime doesn't pay" progression of the protagonist. Ultimately the story fell flat out of the gate, leaving one to ponder:"Would I have been captivated by the story minus the atrocious acting?" If story is akin to life, and past is prologue, then god help us all.
