Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
jtindahouse A slasher film with a rating of 5.7 on IMDb from 2006 with 3 sequels that all have equally similar ratings. Are you kidding me? Have I fallen into another dimension? What kind of witch-craft is this? Naturally, as you can tell, my interests were peaked. So I finally got around to watching it and I could tell from a very early stage why the film's rating was so high. It wasn't going to be a unique brand of horror that achieved the result, it was the humour. This movie is genuinely funny. Toss in the fact that the horror element isn't bad either and you have yourself a very nice little film.Deon Richmond (who does not get enough work) was particularly hilarious and definitely the best thing about this film. Just like his role in 'Not Another Teen Movie' his character steals the show. Joel David Moore also plays his part as the straight guy excellently and has some great chemistry with Richmond. The entire cast has their part to play though and very few of them fall flat. The horror side of things is surprisingly entertaining as well. They go for the extreme gore route and it works to perfection. The look of 'Victor Crowley' is also very menacing and I could imagine it will stick with a few younger audience members. I had a great time with 'Hatchet' and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun ride.
Ashbudash360 There really haven't been any decent slasher movies in the last decade until now. So many people complain that this is a "typical slasher movie" when it really isn't. Slasher movies are all the same in the sense that the bad guy brutally kills his victims with a weapon, but it's the plot and storyline that makes them unique. As a person who loves horror movies and lives in Louisiana, I'd say to watch this movie. Too many horror movies are about ghosts and supernatural possessions, but this goes back to the roots of the classic slasher films and horror movies. Seriously, watch this movie.
jordansepticeye That's probably how most people felt when they saw this. But it's not based of the book about a 14 year old surviving in the wilderness, nope,it's about a group of people stuck in the swamps of New Orleans being chased by a man who looks like the unmasked Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part II,so there similar kind of?I mean there both about survival.Anyways, onto the review.First, the good, when you're talking about horror movies, you gotta talk about the kills, how they good were they?In this movie, they're great,Kool Aid was going everywhere. There was some funny moments and I love the tone. It's so goofy and campy, but it kinda works. The effects are great, and some characters are well developed.I also like the low budget like cinematography.I also like that there isn't an endless body count. Now,the bad. Most characters aren't very well developed, and felt like cheap jokes, which, now that I think about it,that's a pro,the fact that the director(Adam Green)is making fun of typical horror movie characters,so,nevermind. But now,the real cons, the pacing was bad,it felt way too fast. The villain I thought wasn't scary, and very cliché,like ya,he'll rip you apart but he has no character,he's just crazy, though he's a parody of Jason Voorhees, just not a good one,he was so bland.I also thought most of the jokes didn't work.Hatchet is a fun throwback to the 80s slasher films that suffers from poor characters and a weak villain.
jlthornb51 A truly frightening horror film from the talented hand of director Adam Green which succeeds in terrifying as well as being funny. The wit is as sharp as the titular instrument of mayhem and the satire and sarcasm is quite effective. Green uses his limited budget with the expertise of the true cinema artist and never lets any of the corners cut to be obvious. The cast is uniformly excellent and each actor creates a character that is totally unique and human. There is certainly blood shed but never gratuitously and always in furtherance of the plot. Parents should be warned that the proceedings are intense and the suspense unrelenting, so keep you children out of the viewing area as you immerse yourself in the cinema experience known as Hatchet.
