The sacrifice of self, the acclaim, the adoring crowds — classical pianist Marika Bournaki fits the role. But the title of Bobbi Jo Hart's award-winning biographical documentary, I am Not a Rock Star, speaks to the contradictions of Bournaki's life. Shot over a span of eight years - following the pianist from 12 to 20 years of age - Hart's film amounts to a front row seat in the unfolding of a life and the forming of a personality. Shot in verité style in concert halls, hotels and airports around the world and featuring stunning piano performances, the film turns Bournaki's life into a visual narrative, revealing both the rewards and costs of a life dedicated to music

I Am Not a Rock Star Audience Reviews

Noutions Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Pb637 Love how the subject matter was treated. The realism of the film is very touching. Interesting to see this young child grow up before our eyes and pursue her dream. Also nice to see the director be the viewer's eyes in the process, always respecting the situation and letting the main character express her feelings. Although the film is about a young musician, one feels it could be about a teenager engaged in any type of activity, sports, dance, gymnastics, etc. in that sense, it has a universal quality to it, and helps identify with the main protagonist. A nice film for anyone to see, parents and kids. The film has been showing in a certain number of countries in Europe. I hear it's going to be released in the US on digital platforms. I encourage anyone reading this to take some time and see the film. As an added bonus, the selection of music in the film is a pure delight and it is a treat to see the public's reaction after certain live performances.
