This documentary is the most comprehensive look at the "untouchables" in India. Motivated by ancient religious edicts, no amount of governmental encouragement has been able to stem the tragic custom that separates human beings according to their birth. Those considered untouchable suffer more than isolation, they are forced to fulfill menial tasks in their communities, drink from separate containers, remove their shoes on the street as a sign of respect and perform or exhibit many other outward signs of their perceived inferiority. While the media projects a positive image of a democratic India, filmmaker Stalin Kurup spends four years traveling the country to expose the continued oppression of the Dalits, "the broken people," in a wide variety of communities, including Sikhs, Christians and Muslims.

AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
saitejakatlagunta324 I thought rather than reviewing by myself I hope some of these selected situations in this documentary would give a brief picture about what this documentary is about. orthodox Brahmin(Rhetorically):1)Why did you get the birth of a Shudra?:2)Why did you get the birth of a women?:3)Why did you have black skin or white skin?and his answer: Because all these are results of our karmaDalit Women:I put my son into school so that he need not clean toilets like we do,but today in school that's exactly what he is made to doDalit child:I never go to school for lunches because other kids get polluted by me the eat together and I have to sit apart and eat so I feel ashamed to do thatwhat is Untouchability? kid: we are made to behind others and the teacher teaches the others and we are made to sit thereorthodox Brahmin: A Shudra will always be a Shudra and he can't change it no matter how much educated he is and moreover he can't be educated as he has no right to be educated. Now this India what your going to see here is not the India what u see or what you hear about in your day to day life because Untouchability and discrimination against Dalits still are very prevalent in many parts of rural India
Kapol Sarkar It is really a eye opening documentary. A must watch for the developing young country, where modern education resides with trivial preachings. People say that there should not be reservation based on caste system. Why those people never say that there should not be any caste system. This video shows all that, which is actually happening around us, and the modern generation sits blindfolded, complaining about minor issues. All those, who complain about all the bad things in system, please consider that there are some things that are far severe. There are issues that need to be seen. There are problems that no more can be ignored. Nice work guys. I really appreciate the work you have done.
