Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Michael Ledo Johnny English has been 5 years in retirement in Tibet learning the ways of the master. He is called out of retirement for a mission to China to hunt down "Vortex" an assassination group out to kill the Chinese premier. There are 3 keys, or key parts that must be gathered together to have access to a secret weapon. The first good joke was the "Toshiba" sponsor sign for MI-7 secret services. The humor is more than just slapstick. Rowan Atkinson combines the sophistication and intellect of James Bond with the zaniness of Peter Sellers. Indeed, for those who loved Peter Sellers would also enjoy Atkinson who doesn't attempt to copy Sellers, but rather create a character in his own style reminiscent of the master. The early scene with the cat had me laughing out loud at the classic style of Atkinson.English is aided by agent Tucker (Daniel Kaluuya), a sidekick that has his own failings. Excellent use of the sound track. Worth seeing. Simply hilarious.Good family movie for the older kids. Imagine a good comedy without all that crude humor (okay it has some kicks to the groin). No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.
Python Hyena Johnny English Reborn (2011): Dir: Oliver Parker / Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Kaluuya: Well made yet routine sequel to the first film, which came off as dumb as oppose to farce. This one regards secret agent Johnny English in seclusion and repairing his mental state after a failed assignment that left his subject dead. Now he is assigned to claim some sort of key as well as protect a Chinese official from assassination. While the plot is recycled with its hero off in a distant land to "find himself", the structure contains a lot of clever sight jokes that gear towards an ending that surprisingly works. Rowan Atkinson as English must prove himself and is given a few great scenes including his pursuit of a much faster villain, as well as his out witted nature of giving the key to the villain. In the end he will face the odds at a winter resort where earlier training comes into play. What doesn't work here are the cardboard supporting roles. After the success of X- Files one wonders why Gillian Anderson is reduced to the standard high official who sends English on his mission. Dominic West plays a villain who has been duplicated many times over. Rosamund Pike plays an intelligence agent who believes in English even when he is at his weakest but the role is merely a romantic prop. Daniel Kaluuya plays English's much more intelligent sidekick. The film is clever in its humour just as long as viewers can accept the fact that presenting a message is not part of the mission in a franchise that did not need reborn in the first place. Score: 5 ½ / 10
jordimurphy Johnny English 2 is fantastic. I watched it before it came out and I have to say, once it comes out everyone MUST go see it. It is not a total slapstick, childishly funny comedy. I absolutely loved the first and the second one is a must see. Even my mother and wife absolutely loved it. Had us laughing the whole time. This is the movie I recommend to anyone just looking for a funny comedy that entertains everyone. It has a very simple easy to follow plot which makes it great for a children as well. There is no gore, or anything like that so even better for the kids. Rowan Atkinson have made a fun, entertaining film, barely missing the heights of the first adventure. Stay for the after credits scene! Rowan Atkinson never seems to disappoint.
Joe Nelson I would love to say for you to calm down because this movie is 'only a bit of poo' as it would be a cool reference to the first movie. Unfortunately, this movie is actually a rather large amount of poo. That being said, it is not a 100% pure poo. There are some utterly hilarious moments like the vole in MI7 and the Rolls Royce Phantom being truly the Rolls Royce of automobiles. Generally, while not being at his best, Rowan Atkinson is till the highlight of the movie. His lines are funny and he's got a pretty flippin' excellent physical performance shown in the parkour sequence. The main problems arise in the fact that English is far too competent. The first movie was an exercise in dramatic irony. You knew he had parachuted on to the wrong building but he didn't making what he did in there all the more funny. Even though the parkour scene is really funny, It just amazes me that this character is able to execute success in any degree. In the first movie, he starts as the highest ranked agent in MI7 (by default) but constantly fails getting him kicked off the case. He just does everything wrong and the only thing he does do right is falling onto the throne. In Reborn he seems to never technically do anything wrong. He's trying to hide from someone in an apartment, he does it successfully. He tries to fight someone, he does it successfully. He even tries to outrun the police using a wheelchair… successfully. More than this, apart from a few jokes, this supposed comedy movie really isn't that funny at all. The third act is almost all cringe worthily awful as well. In theory this movie isn't too excruciating but there are some scenes (particularly the first one) that are boring and unfunny, Speaking of excruciating scenes, some are just left half baked. Theirs is a sceneof mistaken identity which thankfully shows English's incompetence but just as it's getting good, we are sent away to another exotic location by Deus Ex 'Not Bough'.This movie throws all sort of subtlety and irony out of the window and opts for half finished, unfunny scenes. There are a couple good lines and Rowan Atkinson moment but not nearly enough to redeem this sizeable piece of poo.
