Claire, a brilliant student, seeks answers to the meaning of life in the calm of her biology laboratory. One day, she meets a mysterious young man, Jack, at the cinema, and is intrigued by his style, assurance and audacity. Apart from his artistic activities, Jack has a regular scam going, ripping off foreign businessmen with his loyal mate Charlie and two actresses. But his tough guy exterior conceals a secret passion for old books, and he dreams of writing a novel one day. Jack falls hard for Claire's purity and curiosity. An unusual romance develops between them. But Jack is scared of their growing intimacy and rejects Claire, withdrawing into his shell. Abandoned and confused, Claire gradually begins to neglect her studies and embarks on a spiraling course of self-destruction, whilst Jack, who tries to ignore her, concentrates on his criminal activities. However, a sharp detective, named Linda Fox, is following his dodgy tracks.

Love the Hard Way Audience Reviews

FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
mariass-206-249313 I FOUND IT ALL OVER THE INTERNET and got nothing... Can anyone tell me where to get the subtitle??? I love this movie. thanks.
hot_hot_flame I love to watch this movie when I want to make myself suffer. Not because it's bad. It's incredibly goooooooooooodddd. It reminds me of both my ex fiancé and my husband. I have always had a thing for bad boys like the one Adrien Brody plays here. The guy who is afraid to be in touch with his feelings, but if you stay by his side long enough you will see that tiny inner beauty that will put butterflies into your stomach. Unfortunately, if you get too close to a guy like that, they will burn you... time and time again. I hate to admit I have been to the depths of despair like Claire goes, but I have and this movie rips open those wounds and allows me to bleed all over again. It can be very therapeutic.
Prepskoolqueen92 I found this movie as a last resort to leave my blockbuster and once i saw it i couldn't understand how it had not gotten more publicity or acclaim. Adrien Brody's acting in this movie is incredible, yet reminiscent to his portrayal of Richie in Summer of Sam. Charlotte Ayanna is also amazingly real and relatable in a way that i feel many other actresses could not acceive. Although the romance between Jack and Claire seems to go progress too quickly it is one of the most real and unflinching screen love story i have seen recently. Overall this movie is incredibly real and the acting is superb. It deserves far more credit than it is given.
Cynthia Dagnal Myron Amazing performances by a very interesting cast. Wonderful to see Pam Grier, sans "camp," and in a perfect role. But most of all, Brody is endlessly fascinating as always. The choices he makes during his performances are always astounding and unique. And like his performance, the plot and dialog were full of unexpected little gems. Someone else said you're drawn into the world of this film completely and I agree. It's as if you were part of it, watching all these things unfold each day. So, the plot is at once very unconventional, given that it isn't quite as linear as most...and yet has all the elements necessary for a successful drama. I was spellbound, and have bought it now. A "must have" for my collection.
