This is a delightful Marisol film with some scenes that allowed her to show a comic ability that worked well with Isabel Garces who was a Spanish comic genius in the Lucille Ball style. As she cannot figure out where the fuel filler is on a customer's Cadillac she just walks off to leave him to fill it himself while she pretends to play a record for another customer by singing it herself into the microphone. This quickly gets her and her mother the sack and forces the latter to make the decision to quit everything to see her brother in Brazil. But they cannot afford two tickets so Marisol is packed into a crate as a dog only to discover she has to spend the voyage in the hold with all the other pets. The scene where Marisol tries to steal food from one of the dogs is priceless. When she is discovered and chased all over the boat and the fact that she is saved by the same American that we met at the gas station is a little contrived but serves it purpose. Marisol is allowed to stay on board after demonstrating her dancing and singing ability. Of course! When the sisters meet there is the predictable and comic confusion with Mariluz's boyfriend, who Marisol sees flirting on the beach which Mariluz is not aware of, and she eventually shows her sister what he is really like. The rest of the story is predictable; the money being sent to his sister in Spain has been intercepted by his secretary and her lover, which is why they are poor. The girls and Mariluz's friend have discovered this and decide to put a stop to it, they get caught and the villains get the wrong girl and they are all rescued by ... the American who just turns up out of the blue again. But that is the only thing that could perhaps spoil an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable rompWell worth watching.

This must be the most enjoyable to see Marisol picture. Good edition, good songs. "Marisol rumbo a Rio" was made intended to set the end of Marisol's childhood. So we have the song "Muchachita". The plot is not really based in "The parent's trap", we have no parents to join here, and both sisters know the existence of each other before they met. There are spots of racism, of course, it was a common place in franquist Spain. Despite of it, there is lots of fun, a General Public must see for every researcher of the sixties hispanic cinema. The edition by José Antonio Rojo is another thumb up. Now, if something is not good in this movie, is the final scene. Some additional elaborations could have been appreciated. But this occasionally happens in good pictures (remember the tasteless final scene of the academy award musical "Oliver!").Peter Garner

This Spanish variation on THE PARENT TRAP with Marisol playing both the poor Madrid teenager as well as her estranged sister in Rio De Janeiro is one my favorite all-time films. A guilty pleasure to be repeated several times a year. Like GREASE, this may not be CITIZEN KANE but it sure makes time fly.
