Good story, Not enough for a whole film

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

The movie has a good amount of tension. But Kate Mara does an awesome job focussing the viewer on the core of this movie. It gets pretty emotional and seeing her character and the dog help each other in and out of combat shows the wonderful bond and symbiosis a human and an animal can have.

This movie really moved me. This is based on the true story of Megan Leavey which is an unbelievable story, but oh so beautiful. Never a dull moment in this movie. At times it is heart wrenching and at times it is heart warming.
I do think this is a story that only dog owners/lovers will understand to the fullest.

Its the biographical story of Megan Leavey ( Kate Mara ) a young Marine corporal who worked in Iraq as a military dog handler and the bond developing between both of them.Megan Leavey want to escape from her troubled life and for that she listed as a US Marine corporal. Due to some circumstance she found interest in dog handling dept. Eventually she got a dog " REX " which is rude and arrogant towards everyone. But somehow a relationship generated between them.They both together found countless mines saving lots of American soldier life , The dog even saved her life in one situation. When she left the marine after three years of service she want to adopt REX since its about to retire after a long service but the medical report says that its not suitable for adoption. She is trying for every possible way to give REX a proper retirement in his home instead of in a Military retirement home without much care that he deserve.

You can see what the film is about. WATCH IT is all I'd say.Main thing for me was it never got sickly or clichéd. None of the usual tricks were used in this film that are often used in movies like this. It never got "Hollywoody" if that makes sense?It's a film set in tough circumstances and the people were tough in the face of hard times. The balance between this and human emotions was perfect.Kate Mara is simply fantastic in this.First film in a long long time that made me shed a tear or two. Could and probably will watch again
