Moonlight Mile Audience Reviews

Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
SnoopyStyle Waitress Diana Floss was killed by a husband who came to the diner to kill his wife. Mona Camp (Holly Hunter) is the prosecutor. Diana's fiancé Joe Nast (Jake Gyllenhaal) is staying with her parents Ben (Dustin Hoffman) and Jojo (Susan Sarandon) who still treats him as their own son. He feels obligated to stay which includes going along with Ben's plan of him being in the family commercial realty business. He falls for Bertie Knox (Ellen Pompeo) but they both have secrets of their own. It's a movie about a lot of suffering but mostly done quietly. Everybody is getting crushed but nobody is particularly interested to admit it. It has the air of truth. However it isn't able to squeeze emotions out of the audience. We get to witness their suffering without really feeling it. Most of the performances are great. Gyllenhaal does a terrific job bringing life to the emotional dialog which could have gone another way.
Petri Pelkonen This movie deals with three people dealing with the murder of a daughter. One of them was her fiancé.Moonlight Mile (2002) is directed by Brad Silberling. It's loosely based on Brad's own experiences. The cast does a great job.Dustin Hoffman is amazing.Today this great actor turns 75.Jake Gyllenhaal plays Joe Nast.Susan Sarandon is Jojo Floss.Ellen Pompeo portrays Bertie Knox.Holly Hunter plays Mona Camp.Dabney Coleman plays Mike Mulcahey. This is a film not to avoid. It's not a kind of film that makes you only cry and feel sad, it can also make you smile. The romance part is something I enjoyed. In the music department there is Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Jefferson Airplane and their guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, not to forget the Rolling Stones. The film's title comes from their song of the same name.
judy I have recently become a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal and rented this movie on Netflix after seeing the trailer. I've watched it twice now and will probably buy it off Amazon to keep. This is a sweet, funny, well acted film about people dealing with grief. Jake is great, so is Dustin Hoffman and of course Susan Sarandon. Jake's character though wholes the film together; he is the anchor. The parents can't deal with their grief and heap all of it onto Jake's character. He has two of the most brilliant scenes in the movie and does both extremely well. No this movie isn't for everyone but if you want to see a story about people this is it. I'll probably watch it over and over again.
August1991 While this review is generally negative, I want to make a positive point first. Another poster here noted that 'Moonlight Mile' is so much better than, for example, the trite cartoons of Quentin Tarantino. I agree. This film attempts to deal honestly with the human condition. But the film doesn't work. To see why, I suggest comparing it with 'In the Bedroom' or 'Summer of 42' or 'Passion Fish' which all deal more or less with similar subject matter. 'Moonlight Mile' attempts to be a Robert Mulligan movie but without Robert Mulligan. In a similar vein, the story is set in Massachusetts but in actual fact, the characters are from Hollywood.I don't regret having rented it. The mostly B-side, late 1960s, early 1970s music is omnipresent, and I was always waiting for the next tune to come along. The movie is slow, usually serious but sometimes funny. It held my interest, but there were too many false notes.
