Predator 2 Audience Reviews

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
SunnyHello Nice effects though.
Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Scott LeBrun Writers Jim Thomas & John Thomas take their formidable alien hunter character from one kind of jungle to another, in this tale of gang warfare in 1997 L.A. The Colombians and Jamaicans wage bloody battles, with each other and the cops, and one good cop (Danny Glover) and his cronies are frustrated that they can't seem to make headway. This is really an ideal environment for the Predator; it will have no shortage of worthy targets.Expect a lot of bloodshed, a lot of weaponry, and a lot of in-your-face action in this lively sequel that portrays a slightly futuristic Los Angeles that is quite over the top in terms of violence. It begins with a genuine bang, and rarely offers let-ups - the pacing is definitely first-rate. It does harken back to the first film at times, and also strongly echoes "Aliens" towards the end. It does also take viewers a little further into the culture of the Predators, and teased fans with the possibility of a future "Predator" / "Alien" mash-up with the sight of a Xenomorph skull in a Predator trophy room (this, of course, first came to pass 14 years later).Glover is fairly amusing in a VERY intense, profane portrayal, with Ruben Blades and Maria Conchita Alonso offering fine support. Gary Busey is good as the shady government man who claims to be with the D.E.A. but in fact has a different agenda altogether. Bill Paxton typically steals his scenes in a very Private Hudson-esque performance. Kevin Peter Hall once again plays the murderous title creature, in what was sadly one of his final performances. Morton Downey, Jr. is appropriately cast as a sleazy, loudmouthed journalist. Calvin Lockhart has a regrettably brief cameo as Jamaican drug lord King Willie. Other familiar faces like Robert Davi, Adam Baldwin, Kent McCord, Steve Kahan, Henry Kingi, Lilyan Chauvin, and Teri Weigel also turn up.Composer Alan Silvestri doesn't just repeat himself here, which is good; he expands upon his familiar themes from the original film. And the production design by Lawrence G. Paull is top notch, both in terms of the crime-ridden L.A. streets and the design of the Predator spacecraft. It's of course not meant to be innovative in the slightest. It's just good, tough, straightforward, hard-edged action entertainment.Seven out of 10.
idontneedyourjunk South Central LA seven years into the future has turned into even more of a cesspool than before. Luckily, there's angry/yelling-man Lieutenant Mike Harrigan to sort crap out. He's angry/yelling at the lack of backup while he's breaking protocols, he's angry/yelling at his captain while he's disobeying orders. he's angry/yelling at the CIA while breaking jurisdiction and getting his officers killed. This part was supposed to go to Schwarzenegger (who said no to the script and the director), so to compensate, Danny Glover did alot of steroids? No muscles, just the anger issues.Director Stephen Hopkins, hot off directing Nightmare On Elm Street 5 (the 2nd worst performing in the series), just gave the following direction:"Be angry. Like, you've just snorted a line that was cut with caffeine. Off your wife's back while she's screwing your boss. Here, hold still while I inject you with some more steroids. I just watched Born On The 4th Of July with Tom Cruise. You want to be good as Tom Cruise? Boy, that kid can run. You should run, too. Not fast, because you're too old for that crap. Just run angry. And can you yell a bit more?"So it's Predator 1 in the city instead of the jungle. Only we're starting from scratch again, so it's mostly everyone running around clueless about what is hunting them, and the predator is using the cloaking device, and it's a big reveal! Only you already knew it was a predator and you've seen them before. There's a minor subplot of drugwars, which is the Jamaicans vs Colombians that makes no sense and goes nowhere everyone dies], but mostly it's a secret CIA group hunting the predators they all die as well] with angry/yelling man getting in their way, until he chases one back to the spaceship, kills it, then gets a memento before they leave. End scene. As per usual, alot of the blame can be laid at the feet of the executives. They forced multiple rewrites to cut the budget. They refused to hire the same director because he wanted more money than what he got for the first Predator movie (he had just finished directing Die Hard). By this stage, Arnold pulled out because of the bad script and bad director (also, he wasn't offered enough money). Turnaround for the entire movie was 8 weeks (4 shooting, 4 editing) on a shoestring budget with an inexperienced director, who in his own words, said "I'm pretty immature, really, so it was kind of a laugh".The movie was only greenlit after the comic series were successful, which led directly to AVP, despite this awful mess.Starring:-Pretty much the SFX crew from the first movie, including the original costumes. The spear gets stolen at the end of shooting.-Tom Boyd, everybody's favorite oboe soloist, whom we haven't heard from since 'An Early Frost'.-About 5 dozen stuntmen who double as nearly every small part role. Seriously, you want small parts in big movies? Be a stuntman-Totally not too many chiefs with 8 producers-Hal Rayle, voice of the predator, was the voice of Raphael in the original TMNT TV series-Teri Wiegel, Playmate November '86 (not a stretch to have her having sex in this movie). She tried doing legit movies, until shortly after Predator 2, she was in a car accident and couldn't work for months, forcing her and her husband to sell their house. A Playboy co-worker suggested adult films, and the rest is history, with 88 adult movies-Elpidia Carrillo, Anna from the 1st movie, only one of two characters in more than one Predator movie. Her speaking part was cut, so she only has a background cameo in one scene. She is actually a serious actress in Hollywood and Mexico.-Kent McCord as Captain Pilgrim. Sounds like a poorly thought-out superhero. He had previous experience on the beat as Officer Jim Reed from Adam-12 (60/70s cop comedy/drama)-Adam Baldwin, whose one scene was to try and get angry/yelling man to not be so angry or yelling. No prizes for how that went-Robert Davi, His role as captain was to tell off angry/yelling man every time he broke multiple laws, but let him keep his badge. Starred in the 90s TV series "Profiler"-Bill Paxton, as a smartass, wise-cracking glory-hunter with incredibly bad lines and complete lack of chemistry with fellow actors. It's actually a relief when he gets killed, cementing his main-claim-to-fame, as the only person to have the triple death count from Alien-Terminator-Predator-Gary Busey, as angry/yelling man no. 2, head of the FBI tracking the predators, but seemingly oblivious to everything about them-Danny Glover, who's been too old for this crap for 31 years, has 8 movies coming out in 2018. He's angry and yelling and sometimes running.-Kevin Peter Hall, who gets top billing, even though he's in a full body suit and someone else does his voice. Again. After Jean-Claude Van Damme was fired for being too short and too whiny (Kevin is 7'2" (2.18m))
stormhawk2018 Awful sequel to the 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, where this time, the protagonism passes into the hands of the cuttlefish-faced Danny Glover ("The Color Purple", "Lethal Weapon"), in which is undoubtedly one of the worst interpretations of his career. He even moves his "Lethal Weapon" character to this film, a cantankerous cop! And that's not all: Bill Paxton, Arnie's co-star in "Terminator", fills his place in this sequel. That doesn't mean that half a loaf is better than no bread. This rough sequel was made for those who, after seeing the first, imagined what it would be like if Predator climbed an urban bus and the balconies of the flats instead of climbing the jungle palm trees. It was a HUGE success that Arnie decided to star in "Total Recall" instead of starring in this bullshit of movie. The same goes to the director of the first, John McTiernan, who dodged a bullet directing in the same year "The Hunt of the Red October".This sequel honors the saying of "Second parts were never good," and supposed the beginning of the end for the alien character of "Predator", since the poor have not taken advantage of good way in any of the sequels that have been made , They are all a garbage, and when they put it so that it was faced against Alien, already was the height of absurdity. In this returns Kevin Peter Hall from the first one, but newcomers as: Maria Conchita Alonso ("Running Man"), Robert Davi ("Raw Deal", "Licence to Kill"), Gary Busey ("Lethal Weapon") complete the recurring roles.A piece of garbage. To see if they leave in peace the films of Schwarzenegger, and they do not make more sequels shreds of their films nor more remakes, that they are well as they are!!The movie is not that there is much good to say. Bad if, and a lot, although it is so insubstantial and lacking in interest that I do not know if it's worth it to waste time dissecting such a mess, since it is also one of the sequels that piss me off, so I'll say something to Mr. Hopkins , sure you read me.Look Stephen ... Steve ... we know you're mediocre, you just have to see your insufferable "Lost in Space" to realize that you do not have much to offer us, so I do not understand how you embarked on a project like this and you produced such colossal garbage. Can you promise me that you'll continue with your crappy "The Reaping" films and leave our favorite bugs quiet? I hope so, I and many more will thank you.
NateWatchesCoolMovies Predator 2 is a gem of a film, and don't let anyone ever try and convince you otherwise. It's just so different and so much crazier than the first that I think people had a knee jerk 'wtf' reaction and panned it. It's tough to top the sheer bombastic overdrive of the first one, which is considered a classic, but if anything the sequel switched the nitrous dial past maximum and blasts off into the stratosphere of excessive R rated chaos, an impressive feat. It also switches settings, from the sweaty jungles of South America to the equally sweaty and opulent grime of the urban jungle, namely Los Angeles of the future, bursting at the seams with so many over the top criminals and hectic, delirious violence that by the time the Predators show up they not only fit in, but seem relatively sane compared to everyone else. Seriously, every human character in this film is a coked up tornado of cartoonish energy and brashness it's hard to keep up unless you've hoovered up a few rails yourself prior to sitting down and popping in the blu ray (the blu ray of this is wicked by the way, gorgeous transfer). So get this: Danny Glover, before he got too old for this sh*t, basically serves as a renegade SuperCop in this hellhole of a metropolis, waging all out war on loads of feral gang members and degenerates, constantly leaned on by the obligatory pain in the ass of a police commissioner (Robert Davi, god bless his republican ass) and backed up by a team of state of the art badasses, including Aliens's Bill Paxton, who gets all the best lines and delivers them with the gusto the material deserves. He's also backed by Ruben Blades and tough girl Maria Conchita Alonso, whose appearance and scenes with Paxton call to mind him and Jannette Goldstein side by side in Aliens, or is that just the fanboy in me having an aneurysm? Together they achieve 80's action movie squad goals by messily wiping out as much of the criminal faction in the city as they can, including weird Rastafarian crime lord King Willie (Calvin Lockhart, spooky as all hell), until something else comes along. Something they can't see, hear, or easily empty clips at whilst cheerfully spewing profanity. The predators have branched out, and this time there's more than one, giving their inherent tactical nature a whole new twist. So who better to take on these extraterrestrial game wardens? Glover of course, who positively froths at the mouth. You know you're overacting when Gary Busey has to keep up with you, and he does his loony best as some hush hush Fed who has been keeping tabs on the Preds for sometime, and has big notions of taking them down. It's all in good fun, with jaw dropping, spectacularly brutal set pieces, violence that would not go over well these days (the 80's didn't give a f*ck, man) and a seriously chaotic vibe humming through the whole breathless ordeal. I'd even be so bold as to say that this is the better of the two Predator films, upon getting all misty eyed and craving a rewatch after writing this. Go ahead, shame me. It's just too great of a flick to be as under appreciated as it is. Oh, and watch for a sly cameo from another otherworldly baddie late in the third act.
