"Prelude to Axanar" is a 20-minute science fiction short film from summer last year written and directed by Christian Gossett, whose most known achievement before that was working on the special effects of the Oscar winning "King Kong" 10 years ago. Anyway, as the title of this little movie already tells us, there will probably be a full feature film later this year and this one here is a prequel for that. It switches from interviews with important characters to video recordings of important locations somewhere in space. I may be a bit biased here as I am far from a great science fiction film fan, but I found nothing new in here. It's the usual formula for the genre, but there was no real creativity in my opinion. It also didn't help that none of the actors are particularly known or convincing. Make-up and special effects were fine, but that alone won't cut the cake and I'm really baffled about this movie's IMDb rating. I cannot say I am curious at all about the film that follows this prequel. Not recommended.

I felt guilty for not giving this a 10 initially, but it's only because of one or two nitpicks, which for a Trekker, is actually part of the whole joy of Star Trek, so up to a 10 it went. The production values on this are fabulous. The actors are some of my favorites from television science fiction and let me tell you, they carry over to this medium exquisitely. The documentary style and the special effects cutaways blend seamlessly and meaningfully. If you aren't already immersed in the history of the Star Trek universe, it won't matter. This is still masterfully done. If I were forced to pick between the upcoming full-length Axanar that this preludes, or the next reboot movie as the last Star Trek movie I would see, I would choose this without a heartbeat's hesitation.

This "little" production stays true to the vision that Gene Roddenberry started many years ago.Hands down, this is THE BEST independent adaptation to date. When the full length feature is made, it will make going to the movies a true adventure.The cast, special effects, make-up, costumes, & camera work came together in such a way that it makes you want more! This is something that the whole family can watch and have fun with, and learn something about our own current events.For my own reasons, I have not been to a movie theater since 2002. This short production makes me want to go in on the opening day.

It's been a while since we've had some good Star Trek, true to the vision of Gene Roddenberry. Prelude to Axanar is what this fan was hoping for and it delivers.Told as a historical documentary, and narrated by "John Gill" (Patterns of Force -- TOS season 2), it sets up the forthcoming film on how Garth of Izar (Whom Gods Destroy -- TOS season 3) earned his wings and became a legend in Starfleet. The production is top notch and I eagerly await the film! Congratulations to all involved in the making of Prelude.As for my 9 rating it's only because I wanted to see more!!!!
