Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Renz Vallarta If you will interpret the rating of this film as anything, interpret it as the ratio of open-minded viewers (60% of ratings) against the closed-minded people (about 40%) who view this as some sort of religion or cultural message to everyone in the world - or perhaps just view every movie as a just statement of how everything should be. It's really not.SPOILERS AHEAD:This is a film that took a more mature route - given it's difficult and common issues at hand, than what some people would have accepted. One of the reviews here called the ending as "black-and-white" thinking and degraded it for sending the message that "it isn't ethical or right to commit to marriage at such a young age". The movie was not at all biased about this issue, and rather took it maturely and accurately. If you look closely, as mature as Dave seemed to be and how willing he was to work things out, he couldn't give Raf a thoughtful answer as to why he decided he wants a baby with her. He is young and emotional, and at the moment it showed how uncertain he was - but don't mistaken his true love for her; commitment and love are separate things. The issue of whether it's a good idea to proceed with a relationship with that kind of age gap is all a matter of personality and circumstances. Dave is an emerging artist, and although he could be mature enough to handle a serious relationship and children, it would conflict far too much with his type of career and his current position this early in the art industry. If Dave was someone who worked a stable job with good pay, this wouldn't be a problem and the outcome of the film could be very different. This is an extremely honest film and it has some of the most touching characters I've ever seen in a "chick-flick". It makes me so sad that Raf's "childish" wonder and her attraction to a younger man like Dave is probably rooted from the robbing of her "childhood" by her family's upbringing of her, and her early marriage. She deserves Dave so much.If there is any kind of flaw in this film, it would be that Dave's upbringing should've pushed him into that commitment with Raf of getting married. I don't know much about Judaism, but as a Christian, marrying at a younger age is very common, and Dave is more than capable of doing that with Raf. The conflict of love and profession is a timeless tragedy.
zarragossa Well most divorce woman are as warped or more then the one Urma is portraying and most woman in that age although maybe sexually in their prime are fat and worn out emotionally likely self inflicted and very common. Not every woman in that age has 300 + Million in her bank account and hence it is a privilege to woman that have and not woman that have only attitude and can't deliver a flat stomach nor some cash from the bank account. So all in all, this movie is painting the wrong picture and makes woman expect even more then they already do. It is rated a comedy but still has an aversive Jewish message to the gentiles which is rather an ugly soap bubble and confusing for most older woman at best. I ironed my shirts while watching it painfully to the end and recommend it as a confusing movie to all that need to be more confused.
kunal_modak-891-197246 Was one of the best love story that I have seen in long time. The characters in the movie are so defined. At one point you will loose your self in the movie. Do not resembles any other love story that I have seen the idea of the story looks original. The catch is not only the one person but all the characters in the movie are equally good. Uma therman dose look better than her age. Wittiness is one more part of its practical jocks. the best part is the movie is shot in real places & not in the sets. It looks too authenticity to get the feel of reality in it. To make it more spicy it has a smart twist in a middle to load the movie with an element of surprise.
saltwtr1 This movie supposed to be a "romantic comedy" but there is no comedy in the entire movie. The acting is terrible and the plot is predictable and boring. It is another one of those "Jewish family" movies that are so predictable.I found a few scenes offensive as there are several "jabs" at those of the Christian faith. If the story was about a protestant family and the "jabs" had been about those of the Jewish faith they would be termed anti-semitic.I rented this movie because of the cast, but Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman showed their age and probably gave one of their worst, if not the worst performances, of their career. Greenberg is no better, playing the part of a young immature male that thinks nothing of "boinking" any female he can get into his bed.Don't waste your time with this one.
