Private Lessons Audience Reviews

IslandGuru Who payed the critics
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Mac McFarland yes this is obviously a low budget production. the acting needs improvements, along with the music score and visual quality used (which was pretty standard in that day)... with all the cons going against the film, WHY WOULD I GIVE THIS SUCH A HIGH VOTE? Because the film exposes the dark secrets that most young, experimenting, and fantasizing boys have in their heads. Kudos to the writers and producers letting us guys watch a young teenage boy live out the fantasies we could not... EVEN IF IT IS ONLY A POORLY MADE, CHEAP, LAUGHABLE-at-TIMES FILM. My girlfriend is interested in the movie now and we'll probably put it on Netflix and relax with a few cocktails/beers.to those young men looking for a "coming of age" film that can possibly have been one of the films that led up to the "American Pie" movie era... this one shouldn't disappoint. Soooo, go ahead...take a couple hours out of your day to chill out with this movie and watch a young boy live out your secret teenage fantasy about your maid/housekeeper...(or Babysitter, Nanny, Female Teacher, Female Coach.....or even your best friend's Mom of whom you still carry a secret sexual fantasy that only you can enjoy!!!)
Brian T. Whitlock (GOWBTW) Ten years ago, there was "Summer of '42". "Private Lessons" is like sex education of the 20th Century. A young boy named Philip Fillmore(Eric Brown, before "Mama's Family") is curious about one thing: SEX! Every teenage boy is going to get curious about it. So during a graduation party, he and his buddy, Sherman(Patrick Piccininni) spy on a young woman undressing. Busted by their lovely teacher, Miss Phipps(Meredith Baer). Instead of punishing him, she gives him a chance to find out over the summer. So when he goes to his father's house, he meets a maid(Syliva Kristel) from Europe who gives him a lesson in sex he'll never forget. She lures him into her room, undresses right in front of him one article of clothing at a time. Some boys would scream and take off at this moment. Tells his buddy, doesn't buy it. It's true! Unbeknownst to him, that his father's chauffeur(Howard Hessman) is after his money. So he and Nicole Mallow(The seductive maid) feign a crime. She later wants out, and help Phillip instead. The summer adventure couldn't have been better for Phillip. The crime wasn't a big deal, the experience he had will last for a lifetime! Summer of '42 was very mild, Private Lessons was very provocative. Both are good! 5 stars!!
phillip78 It is obviously illegal. Pedophiles pray on stuff like this. How did they get away with making such a movie? This movie is all summed up in one word, SICK. Where do people get off making, and watching these kinds of films. As I was watching the movie I didn't actually think they would allow this kid that is say maybe 12 if that actually sleep with this woman. Sorry if this is a spoiler to you but I would have rater not seen this. Where has the sanity of these people gone? Maybe the makers of this movie are pedophiles? Our society today is filled with all types of sexual predators that pray upon children, yet film makers make these types of movies that do nothing but provoke this type of behavior. I noticed that on a previous comment someone asked if there was a version where it showed them naked. This is a kid here, and someone is asking something like this? What is wrong with this picture?
kimballtron The last time I saw this movie before getting the newly-released DVD was back in my childhood, let's say 6th or 7th grade. Back then, the naughty scenes were quite exciting and the plot was good for a giggle. And of course young, awkward boys enjoy some small hope that one day they will become more suave through kind experiences of female beauty. On general principal I thought I should add the DVD to my collection. Overall, I was not disappointed. One major detraction I didn't remember seeing before was the crude white-paint censor blots in the two full-frontal nude scenes (boooooo!). This film has a few details on refused-classification.com which suggest that it might have been doctored in this way in order to gain its R rating, even back in 1982. I wonder why it was not offered with a "director's cut" as a special feature of the DVD (e.g. "Dressed to Kill") - artistically speaking, I would rather have a scene cut than done up with something so cheesy and distracting as a censor box (shame!).This movie is what it is - for me it represents just a little piece of my childhood, and contains a few moments that were interesting to revisit. If the features of the DVD had been more complete I would have given it about an 8. I'm hoping I will be amused by the commentary when I hear it.
