ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
nk-09478 Saawariya is a romance film of bollywood produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This film is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story & White Nights The film marks the debut of both the lead actors; Ranbir Kapoor son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and Sonam Kapoor, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor. The story is narrated by Gulabji a prostitute who frequents RK Bar. this view was just awesome. After this,The bar lead singer, Raj whom she affectionately calls Saawariya was a kindhearted guy.The theme of the story is good.Emotional scenes of this movie was wonderful. mid part of the movie was just amazing according to the story. The end part of the movie as a tribute to Raj Kapoor, where Raj walks and sings in a style similar to Kapoor from the film Shree.Music of movie was average. Finally i rated this movie with 6 stars.
DesiBaba I am not a fan of musical or of romantic movie genre. I fast forward through musical numbers, can't stand them. I only got the DVD for this movie from the library because it was directed by SLB. No matter what, his movies are without any doubt worthy of a look. He is one of the better Bollywood directors at the present time. I have watched all of his past movies. The most recent one prior to this one was Black, which I did not like. I felt the same way for the first 15-20 mins of this movie. But I could not turn it off simply due the visually appealing sets and gripping direction from SLB. Sonam Kapoor's performance is worthy of an award given that this is her first movie. Ranbir is also good. Rani is her dependable self. Music, I thought, was below par given the nature of this movie. One or two memorable tracks but not a blockbuster soundtrack. The movie is highly underrated going by its IMDb rating. Even tough it is not a genre that I generally enjoy, it is still much much better than most Bollywood movies that have come out recently...
long-ford This film takes its time but it gradually grows on you. The beginning is slow and the talky first half feels more like a filmed play. However, the acting is consistently good and there are lovely stylized sets, clearly modeled on Baz Luhrman's 'Moulin Rouge!' Both Ranbir and Sonam do a good job, considering it's their debut. Rani Mukherjee is brilliant as a prostitute. She takes a done-to-death role and utterly transforms it by sheer force of personality. Her song "Sun Chabeela" is a musical highlight. The songs are quite pleasant to watch, although a few could have been cut. Watchable.Overall 7/10
rtanson Sometimes a film is so so bad, it actually makes you angry while you watch it, and even more so as you're forced to think about it afterward. Where this film went wrong would take too long to note, but the lead actor should find another career. His posturing and caricature of a true film hero was laughable and pathetic. What a waste of Rani Mukerjee, and as for Salman Khan, well, his career continues a steady downward spiral.B'wood is full of films these days starring the sons and daughters of the last generation. This can work out with great success: think Bachhan and Roshan for example. While the female lead, Anil Kapoor's daughter has a future in the Indian film industry, Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir, should be put on medication following his manic and disturbing attempt at acting.
