The Baytown Outlaws Audience Reviews

Lawbolisted Powerful
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
too_forte Good cast, decent action, love bikes in movies. Tarantino influence for sure. Travis fimel is fun to watch Billy bob always doing the same.
lemon_magic I don't think anyone will ever nominate "Baytown Outlaws" for any awards, but it certainly works well within the parameters the director and screenwriter lay out for it. Think "Road Warrior" meets Elmore Leonard run through a Lynyrd Skynyrd "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys" cast of characters.Lots of good, irresponsible fun.The poster (and box cover) don't really play fair with the viewer - Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria are in this, all right, but Longoria gets about 10 minutes total on screen and Thornton is basically a talking head disconnected from the action. The burden of carrying the film goes to 3 relatively unknown actors who bring their best stuff to these roles and make the film worth watching. I have no idea what their backgrounds really are, but I never doubted their on screen roles for a second. There's even a little bit of depth and character growth here, as the screenplay manages to import character history and family dynamics and takes time to reveal a sympathetic, likable side to these killers for hire as they shoot increasingly bizarre and dangerous bands of mercenaries and killers in their respective faces. Our "heroes" try to keep a helpless, wheelchair bound young man safe in the midst of some very impressive mayhem and take a bit of a shine to him, and in the context of the movie this actually works. The action is convincingly and energetically depicted - it's movie land, where a character can take a huge knife to the back and be back in action two scenes later, but it's huge amounts of fun.Apparently, this film had a very limited release, or it might have made a bigger splash. Too bad - I'd be interested in any else the directors and these actors would be involved in.This actually "felt" more epic than a science fiction extravaganza like "Cowboys and Aliens", even if the story wasn't as novel and involving, so it gets the same score, a "7". If the IMDb ratings allowed it, I'd make it 7.5.
Paul Magne Haakonsen For some reason I had been keeping putting this movie off, as I didn't expect it to be much fun. Boy was I wrong. This movie is quite awesome. This is an adrenaline-filled, testosterone-dripping man's movie. The story in "The Baytown Outlaws" is about the Oodie brothers who do dirty and shady jobs for cash. And when they take on the job of reclaiming a boy they might have bitten off more than they could chew..."The Baytown Outlaws" is entertaining in every sense of the word. The storyline is good and has a good, continual flow to the storyline. And the situation evolves nicely as the Oodie brothers get further and further in over their heads. But the cast they had for the movie was really pulling their load and weight of the movie. Clayne Crawford, Travis Fimmel and Daniel Cudmore did really good jobs as the Oodie brothers (Brick, McQueen and Lincoln, respectively). But also a thumbs up to Thomas Brodie-Sangster for his portrayal of Rob, that was just great. I will say that I am usually not much of a fan of Billy Bob Thornton and his soul patch, but he was quite good in the role of the drug dealing boss.As for the characters in the movie, well strap yourself in for a treat, because there were spared no expense in the department of fleshing out and detailing characters. Especially the Oodie brothers, they were just a heap of entertainment in themselves. But also Carlos, his temper and attitude was just plain fun to behold. There is a unique touch to the movie, and I can't really put my finger on it, but I think it is a combination of the acting, the storyline, the gritty feel of the movie and the camera-work all put together."The Baytown Outlaws" really surprised me and it was good entertainment from start to end. This movie can warmly be recommended if you are looking for about 98 minutes worth of great entertainment.
Bene Cumb Although the movie is as of Robert Rodriguez has met Larry Bishop, there are - apart from evident clichés and imitations - several twists and new angles. Of course, there are lots of strained and improbable scenes and some characters (e.g. ATF agent Reese) provide no additional value to the movie. Inclusion of different kicking-butt groups is too much, even based on the hectic and chilly plot. And the ending is unrealistic as well - if we bear in mind actual US legislation on gunned violence and harassment. The cast is evenly strong, providing several splendid performances (Clayne Crawford, Billy Bob Thornton, Thomas Sangster, above all), and many smaller parts are played by top-grade actors. The movie's 1,5 hours is okay for killing time seeing lots of killings and other stuff on screen...
