The Bodyguard from Beijing Audience Reviews

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Lawbolisted Powerful
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
callanvass This is a surprisingly great Jet Li film, i was pleasantly surprised, it had a cool story and an awesome fight at the end!. All the characters are great, and very likable!, plus Jet Li is simply amazing in this!.Jet and Christy Chung had awesome chemistry together, and the story is constantly interesting, plus it also had a few cool action scenes as well!. The opening is really cool, however the ending confused the hell out of me, that being said it was still pretty cool, and very emotional, and as i said the final fight was just fantastic!, plus The dubbing wasn't too bad in my opinion!. At 1st i found Christy Chung's character to be selfish and annoying, however she soon became likable, and the fight choreography was excellent!, plus Jet had a really cool character!. Some of the dialog was bad, but quite amusing at the same time, and i find this film to be quite underrated!, plus i though Jet's acting was fantastic!. This is a surprisingly great Jet Li Film, i was pleasantly surprised, it had a cool story and an awesome fight scene at the end, i highly recommend this one!. The Direction is very good. Corey Yuen and Kazuya Konaka do a very good job here, with great camera work, awesome angles, and keeping the film at a very fast pace!. The Acting is great.Jet Li is amazing as always, and is amazing here, he is very likable intense, had a very cool character, had awesome chemistry with Christy Chung, kicked that ass, had some decent dubbing, and was especially good at the end! (Jet Rules!!!!).Christy Chung is gorgeous, and does fine with what she had to do, she was a little annoying at 1st but soon became likable, and had awesome chemistry with Jet, i liked her. Kent Cheng did what he had to do well i liked him lots. Collin Chou is excellent as the main villain,he is a great martial artist, and was very menacing i liked him a lot.Wing-Chung Leung did what he had to do well as Ken, and was rather likable. Wai-Kwok Ng is okay as James but didn't have much to do. William Chu is terrible as the kid, and was annoying to boot. Rest of the cast do okay. Overall i highly recommend this one!. ***1/2 out of 5
Diana A pretty good movie all together, with only two real problems-1) The annoying, whiny girl. This seems to be a problem with a great many of the Hong Kong movies that I've seen. Jackie Chan had a series of brainless, whining, silly girlfriends, women who made you wish for an overpass to shove them off of. And several chow yun fat movies that i've seen also contained truly lame girlfriends who just made you grind your teeth. Why is this? Is that what's considered attractive over in China? The girl in the Bodyguard goes from whining constantly about Li's attempts to save her life to turning horribly kittenish(and still useless) after he shoots up a mall killing over a dozen assassins, making her see his value. The same could not be said of her, as she has no value. The second problem was the ending. Not that I wanted Li's character to end up with bubblehead-far from it. It made me particularly happy to see that he didn't. What i don't understand is the long shot of him standing in his uniform in front of the Chinese flag while music plays soulfully. What kind of ending is that? Was this movie bankrolled by the Chinese government as a propaganda film? I kept expecting Li to thrust out a forefinger at the audience and say "Uncle Mao wants you!" Otherwise, this was a fairly good film, with some excellent fight scenes and a truly interesting bad guy. Worth a watch or two.
Dan Starkey If you like Corey Yuen's balletic gunfighting, more recently demonstrated in 2002's "So Close," then you will enjoy the earlier "Bodyguard from Beijing." This film is fun to watch, and manages to produce some surprises despite the formulaic bodyguard-and-rich-bratty-girl plot. The schmaltzy sequence with the song is the only part where the movie drags. However, given Yuen's preference for gunplay, Jet Li fans are apt to be disappointed, since Li has less opportunity to showcase his kung fu skills. Christy Cheung gets the job done in the damsel-in-distress role, and to paraphrase Dorothy Parker, she plays the range of emotions from A to B.
smakawhat Considering that I felt like picking up a new Jet Li film to see some but kicking and brainless hand to hand fighting, I grabbed this title.Unfortunatly, this movie contains more gun battles (ala Chow Yun Fat but nowhere near as good), than Jet Li and company's acrobatic fighting. Thus it was a let down. The faucet fighting was interesting and even funny, considering this was something totaly unexpected in a Jet Li film for me, more on the line of say Jackie Chan. But alas I'd recommend Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master, or even the Enforcer over this dissapointment.Rating 4 for martial arts Rating 3 for overall movie score
