The Cave Audience Reviews

BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
AverageJoesDriveInPodcast This film has a few good things going for it. The acting isn't bad, the FXs look good and the film is very well shot. I really liked the creature FXs. They had a very primordial look to them that was creepy. Much like the film The Descent, the film is very dark and takes place in low light settings. That's both to its detriment and advantage. The advantage being, you can't really tell what's going on, so it adds a slight bit of tension. The detriment being you can't see what's going on and the filmmakers overdue that trick a bit too much. I didn't have any major problems with the characters or the performance by the actors playing them. It was nothing too noteworthy, but there also wasn't anything that brought the film down or took your focus off from what was happening. Where this film lost me was the story. Honestly, it was a good premise, but it just wasn't all that interesting. Also, for the type of film it was, I expected more tension and dread. It didn't deliver in those areas at all for me. The creatures weren't used to create a sense of fear. It was more of a 'hey, look, I'm over here, don't I look cool' type of thing. They do a good job of explaining things, but by the time they did, I'd already figured it out. Unfortunately, these things are such a huge part of the film that it turns this into a very mediocre snore fest that manages to keep you just interested enough to pay attention. This was an okay but forgettable film. I may give it another view down the road, but for now, I'm good. My Rating: 4/10
hellholehorror I didn't like how shaky and fast the editing was. I thought that it hid too much and made it hard to tell what was going on. The shakiness was distracting. Other than that I guess that it was fine. There was nothing too exciting to look at. The sound fields were creative and really well produced. I loved the use of the rear channels. Absolutely fantastic sound! This was just like Alien (1979) in a cave but without the suspense and awesomeness. I had no care for the characters or what was unfolding. It was made for teenagers and consequentially the horror is non-existent in what should be a horror movie. It was more like an action movie but without all the cool guns and car chases and helicopters and stuff. Rather dull story and unoriginal shenanigans make this a very forgettable piece.
EL Chapo Well all I can say about this movie is concluded in the two sentences below: "DON'T STOP BELIEVING IN JACK" "F*CK YOU BRIGGS"Well that tells you the whole story about the so called "THE CAVE" when its clearly more like "ALIEN-LIKE-BS IN THE CAVE"Its a decent movie after-all, will entertain you but don't expect MUCH! Live by the golden rule:--->>"Expectations Leads To Disappointment"
robo8 Pros: Nice photography. Nice settings. Partly really nice visually. Nice cast.Cons: Crappy dialogue. Absolutely disastrous action sequences. Extremely poor use of soundtrack. Generally poor directing. This is director Bruce Hunt's first and probably last budgeted motion picture as a director. He has apparently done second unit on the Matrix franchise and some work on Dark World previously, but probably nothing action oriented if I may guess. The biggest weakness of this movie is the action sequences. You don't know what the heck is going on in any of them. Extremely fast cuts at close up range wastes just about every moment of action in the movie. But the directing is overall poor. Even in non-action sequences you sometimes don't know what's going on and why they made some of the choices they did. Just all of the sudden they are doing something, no real explanation why. Also, some of what happens is just purely idiotic and illogical. The use of soundtrack in this one is a pet peeve of mine. From the starting scene they put on some generic "spooky music" which plays over every single scene. This includes some of the initial sequences where we just see the crew gathering and briefing. The fact the there is a pretty good cast in, at parts, visually stunning settings, is not even close to enough to save this mess. I'm sure Bruce Hunt is a nice enough guy and has a purpose on this earth like all of us, but from this I doubt strongly that it would be directing movies.
