The Countess Died of Laughter Audience Reviews

Clevercell Very disappointing...
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Leofwine_draca THE COUNTESS DIED OF LAUGHTER is an Italian/West German sex comedy set in and around a nunnery, of all places. It's actually the sixth in a series of similarly-themed comedies that were being made since the 1960s. These films do seem to have had cinematic releases in the UK back in the 1970s but have languished in obscurity ever since, and watching this it's easy to see why. This film simply isn't very good. It's an obscure comedy with some very broad jokes and lots of softcore fumblings and female nudity to pad out the running time. I don't mind the genre as a whole but if you're looking for smutty CARRY ON style stylings here then you aren't going to find them. The jokes are extremely exaggerated and the typical poor dub job means that they don't translate very well. I found the performances over the top and the acting styles unfunny. What the film does have going for it is a gorgeous leading lady (Femi Benussi, star of many a genre film from the era) and Gabriele Tinti, your usual go-to guy for stuff like this. The end result is quite mindless, with lots of attractive starlets happy to disrobe for the camera but barely any kind of plot. It's definitely German style comedy rather than Italian, and the only thing missing is a pair of lederhosen.
eminem_me2-59-864229 This movie is definitely not for people who are easily offended when they see something against their belief on TV. The movie vaguely make fun of nuns of the church and shows most of them as hungry for sex kinda girls. And for those specific group of audience who are always seeking a movie which has "comedy, soft-core porn, and a nice little old story", in it then this movie is best for them. *I REPEAT, IF YOU ARE A Christian AND RELIGIOUS TOO - PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE* apart from that anyone with good sense of humor and taste for movies with soft-core in it will definitely going to enjoy it till the very end of the movie until it reaches it climax. Although the acting was not up to the mark but the unique story and eye candy in the movie should keep the concerned audience stick to their seat until the end of the movie.
Stefan Kahrs The "Frau Wirtin" films were a series of period sex comedies, made in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is hard to believe, but the literary inspiration to these films really is a song. The films featured a surprisingly large number of established actors in less than establishing performances, and a less than surprisingly large number of less established actresses out of their clothes. This one, the last in the series, seems to be (outside the German speaking countries) the most widely distributed of the lot. Not to put a too fine point upon it: it is clearly the worst film of the series, composed to a large extent out of clippings from the earlier films embedded in a very thin new plot about who is going to inherit the estate of Susanne, the "Frau Wirtin" of the title. There are several female candidates with a lifestyle just as promiscuous as Susanne's.The technical quality of the English dubbing is truly atrocious, but then this film does not really deserve any better treatment.
