The Enforcer Audience Reviews

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
gavin6942 An undercover cop struggling to provide for his son and ailing wife, must infiltrate a ruthless gang. But things turn sour when another cop blows his cover and he quickly finds himself battling for his life and the lives of his family.I watched this as a double feature with "The Defender", which seems appropriate given the similar time, cast, crew and so on. Of the two, this is the more complex, but unfortunately it is also the less enjoyable. The fun and humor of the earlier film is just not present. One thing that is interesting is how much of this story is from the perspective of the son. It never devolves into silliness or kid-friendly territory, though. That should count for something.
Leofwine_draca MY FATHER IS A HERO is a collaboration between director Corey Yuen and star Jet Li that feels virtually identical to one of their previous pictures together, BODYGUARD FROM BEIJING. The two films are interchangeable in terms of look, feel, and fight action, so they'd made a fine double bill for martial arts fans. This one has some touching scenes between Li and Xia Miao, who plays his son. Usually, I don't like kids in action or suspense film; they're invariably whiny, they cry a lot, and they get in the way. Not Miao. He's a tough, ass-kicking boy who takes no crap whether it's from the bullies at his school or the thugs his dad's involved with. Miao's acting is strong and he's definitely the best child actor I've seen in an action film yet.The film ticks all the boxes without really breaking anything in the way of new ground; most Hong Kong crime thrillers of the 1990s were like this, with ultra-cool and slick criminal gangs and plenty of tension when the hero gets involved with them. The family scenes and the touches of romance in this one aren't as out of place as they sometimes can be, and it helps that there's a high calibre of acting talent throughout. The late Anita Mui is particularly good as the tough cop on Li's tail.Li himself is once again excellent, showing off his skills in both the acting stakes and the action parts, and with Corey Yuen at the helm the fights in this are superb. The shoot-out at the shopping mall is great stuff, and of course the majority of the fun is saved for the extended climax. Here, we get Li tackling three top villains on a bomb-laden boat. The bad guys are Rongguang Yu (the sunglasses-wearing, ultra slick chief villain who's one of the slimiest I've seen – he almost drips oil and grease), Collin Chou (who was the main villain in BODYGUARD FROM BEIJING) and Ken Lo (the high-kicking guy who Jackie Chan fought at the end of DRUNKEN MASTER II). The ensuing action is thoroughly entertaining, especially when Li ties his son to the end of a rope and proceeds to use him as a human yo-yo, thwarting the villains by tossing him through the air at them! All in all a lot of fun, as long as you're not expecting a classic.
bob the moo Wei Kung is a husband and a father but also an undercover cop. Leaving his sick wife in the care of his young son, Wei takes an undercover assignment to use small-time criminal G-Dog to get close to Po Kwong and bring down his gang. Forced to take part in a job to win the gang's trust brings Wei to the attention of Inspector Anna Fong, who goes after him even though she suspects there is more to him than just a criminal. Wei makes progress in the gang, but changes in his family situation see his son, Johnny, put in danger. As Jet Li's fame grew he started doing more films with modern heroes as opposed to those of Once Upon A Time In China, Fist of Legend, Twin Warriors etc and this film is one of those. As is too often the case with action movies all over the world, the plot is pretty weak with some plot twists being poorly delivered devices just to get the characters where they need to be; certainly anyone looking for strong characters or sensitive writing will be left wondering why they bothered, but then this is an action movie so why be surprised? The plot contrives to bring Anna Fong into the film in place of Wei's wife and it feels cruel and cold the way it is done; once it is done of course it more or less works for the rest of the film but it just makes the whole film feel forced for about 30 minutes or so.Jet Li does well in the lead and he is a good enough actor to try and provide emotion where the script gives him none and the film has no patience to allow him much time to let his character feel anything other than bad guy's kicks. He is physically impressive but he also shows a good range here in limited opportunities. The role of Johnny could have been an annoying kid role and, in a way, it is, but the casting of little Miu Tse at least makes the role one that contributes to the action. The kid they had dubbing him in the version I saw, turned his dialogue into a typically Hollywood cutesy role but Tse himself is very impressive in his action scenes and makes up for the rest of his character's failing. Anita Mui is also physically very impressive and has some good action scenes and it is not her fault that her character is rather shoehorned into the film at the expensive of logic and emotional involvement.Overall this is an OK film but some will dislike the rather shoddy plot and the way it doesn't really deliver the emotions that the plot events suggest that it should. However what it does do is action and there are many good fights here involving all the main cast with only one or two moments where I felt the wirework was badly done.
smakawhat Jet Li is BACK!!!!!!!!! Kickin ass and takin down names. He's a Beijing detective, sent to infiltrate and hide among a criminal underlord (who never seems to loose his cool sunglasses!) in Hong Kong. Teaming up with him is his son. Well his son does not know about his fathers true profession, and when a female HK detective comes looking for him in Beijing, his son and the woman return to HK to track him down, and to take out Mr Cool sunglass dude with huge black trench coat!!!!Surprisingly this movie does not have a lot of action sequences. IT is more concerned with developing the relationship between the characters and creating a story. It's all done GREATLY!! and then when the action does happen it is TOP NOTCH!! Jet Li's son in the movie is a total scene stealer. Particularly when super-bad-henchman-boss takes Jet Li's son sitting at a glass table eating take out, grabs his head and SLAMS it through the table smashing it in a million piece in front of Li!!!! But Li can do nothing or else his cover is blown!! THAT IS NUTS MAN!!!!!!!!!Also the final confrontation scene where Jet Li has to stop Super-bad-sunglasses dude and his henchman at an art auction, is TOTALY TOP NOTCH FIGHTING PHANTASITCISM!! Now these HK movies KICK SERIOUS BUT!!! This movie is the combination of a REALLY GOOD HK martial arts flic like Drunken Master II, or Jet Li's Fist of Legend, and stylized gangster John Woo / Chow Yun Fat action slickness such as 'The Killer'.Majorly CRUNCHINGLY GOOD ROLICKING STUFF!!!!!! I don't know how I can ever get any enjoyment from Hollywood action films now after seeing so many good HK action movies.Rating 8 1/2 out of 10
