The Ex Audience Reviews

Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Elizabeth Dalton Jason Bateman give a solid performance... It was a switch to have him in an antagonist role. I love it when you love hating the jerks in movies. Adore Charles Grodin but wish I would have paid better attention --- I can't stomach anything Amanda Peet is in... I got to the best parts of this by fast forwarding through any portion of the movie with her in it. She is the opposite of maternal. How she was cast as a young mother is beyond me? Every scene with her and the baby looked forced and uncomfortable. I felt badly for the baby. very hard to get into this movie for the lack of chemistry between Peet and her husband co-star. Can you tell I cant watch movies with her in them? Gag.
Desertman84 The Ex is a comedy that stars Zach Braff, Amanda Peet and Jason Bateman. The cast also includes Charles Grodin,Mia Farrow,Donal Logue,Amy Poehler,Amy Adams and Fred Armisen. It is directed by Jesse Peretz. Living in Manhattan, Tom is a cook who has a hard time holding down his job. His wife,Sofia, is an attorney. When their first child is born, they agree that she will be a full-time mom and he will work to get a promotion. When Tom gets fired over defending his friend Paco, he takes a job in Ohio working at the ad agency where his father-in-law is the assistant director. Tom is assigned to report to Chip. Chip is a competitive and hard-driving wheelchair-using man who is coincidentally Sofia's ex-boyfriend from high school. Chip still carries a desire for her, so he conspires to make Tom's work life miserable. As Tom's frustrations mount, Chip begins to sway Sofia to his side. Suddenly, Tom finds himself sabotaged by Chip at every step as the nefarious paraplegic schemes to steal Sofia from him and destroy any chance he might have of success at the agency.Delayed, re-titled and presumably at least partially re-shot, Jesse Peretz's troubled office-bound romantic comedy is as half-baked as you'd expect it to be.It should be good as it has a well-known and talented cast from top to bottom. Also, the subject of ex-boyfriends is limitless.Unfortunately, the screenplay is stupid, far-fetched and annoying things to do that it loses credibility quickly. The whole movie is so generic feeling and such a blatant waste of precious smart-comedy resources.I can't advise anyone to see it.
scarletminded First off, The Ex, re-titling of this film isn't accurate. The main woman has sex with Chip's character once and they weren't dating, so he isn't an ex.Different versions of this film are out there. I've seen the version with most of the scenes others said were deleted. I liked this film and it is funny, if only for the character of Chip. He is in a wheelchair, but he's totally a jerk. It is what gives the movie it's meat. Zach Braff plays the straight man to Jason Bateman's cynically funny handicapped role.It has some original ideas, like Chip running the Barcelona running of the bulls in a wheelchair and I liked the kid who could eat a hamburger whole. There were a couple SNL people around, but they didn't add much to the plot, which was disappointing, because they could have. The parents were a bit one dimensional, but I still enjoyed the film.It was witty, mean spirited and not PC. Maybe that is why people didn't like it. I laughed a lot and felt it was a good use of 90 or so minutes. I would recommend it to others to rent.
prospeak I must say that i was pleasantly surprised by the way this movie turned out , and judging by the reviews . . . . i was just expecting an average flick . Well the story may not be the best in the world but the execution is good . Braff is in his 'scrubs' form. Jason Bateman is hilarious and so is the rest of the cast .There are quite a few laugh out loud moments in here , this flick has a nice mixture of subtle wit and slapstick . Why the other bad reviews then you ask ???? Well let's just say that the movie is not kind to the disabled and is pretty much a reminder of how we treat them differently( of course not in a bad way , but the 'extra niceness' is my point )and some people will detest that . Well summing it up it is a good movie which does not have gross out humor , a good cast , an o.k(if not a completely believable script) and is good for lightening up the mood on a weekend. ( 8 stars is overshooting but what can i say . . . i am a fan of scrubs and arrested development and the movie is way underrated )
