The Five-Year Engagement Audience Reviews

UnowPriceless hyped garbage
ISAAC BUEHLER I went into this film with low expectations. Very rarely do I actually take the time to watch romantic comedies but this one had such an excellent cast that I decided to give it a try. So glad I did. This film is fantastic. It knows when to be smart and it knows when to be serious, and both of these things it pulls off perfectly. Probably the thing that surprised me the most about this film was the fantastic chemistry between Jason Segal and Emily Blunt. I never would have guessed that they could work so well with each other! Chris Pratt and Alison Brie are also great together. In fact, the whole cast is great. It was very refreshing to see Kevin Hart in a smaller role in which it didn't feel like he was trying the steal the entire scene. The only reason that I took two stars off my review is because I did feel at times that the pacing was a little bit off. Some of the scenes probably could have been tightened up a bit to make them that much more effective and there may have been a few short scenes that weren't really needed. This is my only real complaint about the film.Overall, I highly recommend this movie. Though it is quite long for a comedy, it's also totally worth it. "The Five-Year Engagement" has a lot of charm to it and also has a very interesting metaphor tied into the plot. The film has a great story, a great cast, and should make for a great date night movie!
beyes-77889 2hr complete wastage . Horrible story and complete mess with characters.First 30min you will enjoy the sweet Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. But it comes to complete disappointment thereafter . This is one of the all time worst films I have ever seen.So go enjoy the beginning and end but be ready to take a 30-minute nap in the middle. It is extremely boring; "it's got Jason Segal in it" makes you watch it, hoping it gets good except it is so. It seemed to limp along, struggling to make a story out of what was pretty much no story, and only provided the odd chuckle earlier on in the film.Seriously, don't waste 2 hours of your evening on this.
kevinathome So, Jason Segel plays an 1960's woman, trapped by her love into making frustrating career sacrifices, except as a man in the new millennium. So, it takes a fresh look at an old formula, but then confounds it, by never doing the expected thing, and improves it, with appealing, believable, admirable characters.I think my favourite part was when the heroine's older, arrogant professor boss makes a move on her. For one thing, everybody, including her, frankly and adultly agrees that she had created or permitted that situation. And then when our hero felt obliged to fight the prof, the prof comes back to help when the hero falls. Then when Jason's character still throws a punch, the skinny prof rapidly blocks, counters, then APOLOGIZES because it had just been reflex. Finally the prof agrees that the right thing to do would be to at least run away when Jason chases him. So he does. See, it's unexpected, funny, and so optimistic about how people could act, if they just recognized each other as humans, and that everybody is the hero of their own story. And Segel, as usual, just seems so real to me, like somebody I would know, if you saw them at their most open, their most vulnerable. Amy Blunt, as the heroine, was genuine and appealing. It celebrates love and commitment, without the fanaticism and superstition of so many romance movies. Those movies say you are nobody without the love of a pretty girl and there is one and only one for everyone.
ashi4782 A lot of reviews say that this movie is not worth your time. It totally is. I really love this movie. I think many came into this movie expecting a lot of laughs without thinking. This is not that type of movie. It's not just dumb laughs. There are a lot of metaphors about psychology and relationships. The chemistry between Emily Blunt and Jason Segel is great. I also thought that the jokes worked and I actually was not bothered by the 2 hour runtime. This is a movie I'd definitely recommend. I enjoyed it and it's a movie I'd like to watch again.
